Fender Jazz and The Twilight Zone

Specifically it was a RW Jazz. Easy to identify by the specific relic treatment they all share.

Chris Squire Has Passed On..... So Sad...

Right, I forgot about that from Chris's original press statement. Makes sense, as he's played guitar for them before and knows the songs.

Chris Squire Has Passed On..... So Sad...

His tone was like a foghorn and a chainsaw had a 4-stringed wooden baby that cried in stereo.

Chris Squire Has Passed On..... So Sad...

One more thing. I don't know if anyone else said it yet (as I haven't thumbed through the entire thread on my iPhone yet), but setting the legendary bass playing aside for a moment: the guy could sing! Many/most of those harmonies you hear with Anderson on the iconic Yes tunes are predominantly...

Chris Squire Has Passed On..... So Sad...

There's no time like the present! Fill your mind with Siberian Khatru, "Fish", Heart of the Sunrise, and Long Distance Runaround. Just for starters. I'm sure they're on YouTube. I think one of the articles said this, and it's true: Chris had an amazing ability to harmonize his bass lines. It...

Chris Squire Has Passed On..... So Sad...

That would be interesting. Has he ever played with Yes? He already has one dead bassist to fill in for :) I was thinking more like Tony Levin, who was really good in ABWH. Saw them live in Edinburgh in October '89, and although he wasn't Squire, he nailed it. I have no doubt Pino would nail it...

Chris Squire Has Passed On..... So Sad...

"And in the ruins of the balloon Stood a man with glasses held high Wondering when to do it again Have another fly into the sky Somewhere flying high Astral traveller Leaving without her Wandering where lights go Leave out the body load" Safe journeys, Chris Squire. You inspired us all. We...

    Help, please! Fake Precision??

I agree. And my local luthier of choice and I have had this discussion a couple of times. This kind of statement could spark a holy war here in TB, but he said he could put a good pickup on a plywood body and make it sound good. I'm not going to doubt that the better counterfeits out there...

I used to not like P basses

No, not at all. You have Bootsy Collins, Stanley Clarke, Larry Graham, and more recently Mark King, Marcus Miller, Flea and Victor Wooten (among others) to thank for this "new"(?) 30 year old trend. Billy Sheehan is not typically associated with slap (though he is extremely competent in any...

    1982 Fender P bass special-walnut

Ditto every word of this. My senior year '83/84. This was the most badass bass (as far as I was concerned) in my local music store (Brook Mays). Heavy but awesome.

    Help, please! Fake Precision??

Wow. Another bad copy decal. You'd think they would download one of the good copies that are out there. Or buy them and reproduce.

    Fender Bassman 500 Head

If it sounds even half as good as my Super Bassman 300 into a GK 212-II neo then it will be amazing :) Congrats!!

    Help, please! Fake Precision??

FWIW, from exchanging a few messages with him, I am fairly certain that this older Dutch gent is well-intentioned and doesn't know a lot about Fender bass vintage details, nor authenticating/dating them. He may well have bought this under the same pretense he's selling it under.

    Help, please! Fake Precision??

Yeah, pretty amateur. I didn't even point that out to him, though, because I had already spent enough lines on talking about the other obvious problems in my message.

    legit Jazz or no?

I don't know what to think anymore. I used to think that marking the neck pocket and neck heel would be sufficient, but now I see those painted over frequently. Plus, non-licensed parts won't have that.
