    Cutting/shortening flatwounds: yay/nay?

When I installed E B cobalt flats the instructions were to make a sharp 90 degree bend with pliers to lock the core and cut past that.

    Short scale 5 string

I have an Ibanez 32 inch Mezzo 5 string. I put Dunlop flats 40-120, on it. They are supposed to be fairly low tension as that is what my hands like and are used to. I don't find them too loose. They sound very good. Tuned to standard pitch. The strings are indicated to be for 32 inch scale. Is...

Opinions on Peavey grind 5 string

I had an early one I got as a backup to my Carvin 5. It was made in Viet Nam. The wood work was beautiful and the neck felt great, 5 piece laminate I think, 35 inch scale. The hardware was very cheap and I didn't think much of the pickups. I always thought it would be great if hardware and...

M2B2 Club (Mustang, MusicMaster, Bullet, Bronco)

The extra hole was a test drill.

M2B2 Club (Mustang, MusicMaster, Bullet, Bronco)

Photos attached. When I got this bass the headstock seemed out of proportion for the size of the bass. Somehow it really offended me, so I changed it. I didn't bother with a new tuner, just moved the original. The pickup is a SD stacked humbucker.

I angled my Seymour Duncan jazz pickup replacement to my Bronco so that the pole pieces would line up. I'll upload a picture later.

    What's the best Medium Scale (32") 5-string you've played?

I bought a Mezzo 5 and I think it sounds pretty good and plays well. I haven't tried in a band setting. I got it to try a five string for jazz. I put Dunlop flats on it which are pretty bright for flats and sound good. The selection of 32 inch flat wound strings for fivers is limited. I don't...

    SBMM Stingray Short scale

A Carvin bass I bought in 2000 came with a tung oil finish on the neck. I have refreshed it a couple of times since. It's very easy to use. Apply with a clean cloth, wait 5 or 10 minutes and rub off the excess with a clean dry cloth. I like it better than the tru oil on my sting ray. I recently...

    Using Combo Amp as PA

Ha. That reminds me of a gig I got once when I was in high school. A friend of mine from a family of country and blues musicians, he played guitar as well as drums in country gigs, asked if I wanted in on a country gig he was drumming for. So I brought my Fender bassman and we met up with these...

    Using Combo Amp as PA

I have an old small Mackie mixer that has a pad on the output to put it at Mic level. That would probably work.

Did We Just Play for the Mob?

I played with a Christian band at a minimum security prison once. But security was tight for us. They inventoried every piece of gear in and out. Since I was in charge of the p.a. that I built myself, I had to explain every every piece. It took forever to get in. We of course walked through the...

The original gauge of the strings in a SquierJazz Bass VM ?

I know it's been 10 years but Fender 7250 NPS on amazon about $18. If you have a set of calipers you can measure the string dimension of your existing strings.

    SBMM Stingray Short scale

I messed up my reply to hiphopapotamus trying to reduce the quote. My response is: Have you thought about adding a separate output jack wired direct to the P pickup?
