    I think yes (though I never played it). the growl comes in great part from the metal on the bass and the wenge.

    the barto's are passive p'ups (so you can put them on passive or active bass, depending on if you want a preamp or not). they were on thumb6, stage1 5&6 and on dolphins 4&5 until 90'

    just to say we also often find bartolini on old thumbs, but the sound is rather the opposite of what you search, not much trebble. emg's would be good i think. realy nice bass, it looks more like a streamer to me.

    the bassist of soulfly uses a tiger eye on the profecy clip, but I cant find it back on live.

    you can put a 2 band preamp inside, with stacked trebble/bass, so you still have 3 holes for the knobs. be sure you got the space in the cavity before selling it ;)

    a friend got a grind (bxp, then), and an inlay has fallen. never found it back. appart of that, it sounds great. the neck is just thin as nothing I know. (thats some of a problem as I'm a 5er addict, with a warwick's big neck never too far) what kind of problem did your brother get ?
