Even though I only have a Squier Affinity Jazz 5, I either use both full, or just the neck. I like the neck, mostly for older rock styles, and earlier geddy stuff.

Something else I should say about the SR models, in regards of intonation. The 500 and 505 were quite off on the lower strings (E on the 500 and B and E on the 505). It took approx 20 mins to solve this problem. You have to adjust the intonation a lot to get the slightest change in tuning...

What it really comes down to is what you liked best when you were in that store. Go back and try them out again, if you have to.

Yes, the SBMM is a great bass, from what I hear. I played the ray34 (metallic gray or w/e) and the QC seemed to be great. Couldn't play it through an amp though. The overall feel seemed better, compared to a Stingray 5 string, which I tried side by side....although that's not saying much...

I can speak for the SG models.. I'm currently renting a 505. I also previously rented a 500. Waiting for a 506, that I bought. The 505 is overall a great bass. There may be other 5-string options for the price though. If you were to buy a 505, look into a used one (a 2010+ model with the mid...

Speakers help, but a GREAT sound card makes a huge difference. Look into Forte soundcards....normal creative x-fi cards are okay, but these blow the doors off them.

Good enough for playing 7 months. Switched from guitar. Just learned Learning To Live by Dream Theater. Took me a LONG time to learn it correctly, as all the tabs were terrible. Before that, I learned some other stuff from them- including Metropolis.

I'd be going to see DT, but I heard on the MP forum that they shouldn't be playing longer than an hour. Not worth it when I would have to travel 12 hours.

For $100, I'd do it. I own one....my first bass. It doesn't compare to MIM Fenders, or MM's...but it works fine. The B isn't the greatest though, just so you know.
