Impatient rant

Two weeks ago I ordered a Squier VM P at Key Music. Last Wednesday I sent them an e-mail asking if it was going to be at the store by the weekend because I had other things planned and needed to know if I had to make time to drop by to pick it up. The guitar guy (they have no bass guy apparently), Alain, instantly called me: he would check with his boss but it was going to take a little longer because of problems with their delivery service.

So I thought I was going to have to wait a few more days. Wrong! Didn't hear anything from them so I sent another mail yesterday because I feared something had gone wrong and the order was canceled altogether. Alain called me again and said he was going to check with his boss and with the delivery service to see what the problem is and would call me back/send me an e-mail this afternoon at the latest.

Still haven't heard anything, starting to consider canceling my order and just buying it somewhere else.
I know I'm impatient (by nature) and I can understand there are some things they have no control over, but is it really that much to ask to at least let me know how long they think it'll be before my bass gets there??

FYI their main supply is maybe 100km away from the shop.

Seriously though, how long does it usually take to have something delivered.
On their website it says that they have it in stock in the central depot (90km away from the store where I intend to buy it) so I find it hard to believe that it's taking more than two weeks to get there.
They aren't keeping me posted unless I ask them and even then I still don't know what's causing the delay.

I'm seriously starting to consider ordering everything from Thomann but I don't really have any references about how long it usually takes...

If its 90km away and there is a transport problem, that just sounds to me that they haven't been paying the delivery guys.

Talk to the boss, cancel, drive 90km, try, pick your favourite piece, post photos and sound clips on TalkBass.

Sometime things go through a distributor. For example: Ibanez's stock is bought and shipped through St. Louis Music, or maybe it's Kamen... it's been awhile since I've worked at a music shop. Usually those distribution centers wait for a full order for a particular location before they ship something.

Chances are your local shop has no control over how long it will take to get your gear. Be patient.

I'm sure it depends on the store, but in my experience, walking into a store and having them order in something from the manufacturer isn't the same as going on musiciansfriend or amazon and ordering it for yourself. In fact, it often takes months.

what it means is the guy prolly didnt order it to start with..then remembered when you called about it...happens all the time

You should have been given ups or fedexe tracking info via std email for shipment progress and email sent if there was any delays in shipment. Sound like poor mailorder/weborder whatever service by them to you. Unless its a custom order or something item should ship within a couple days (weekdays) from the time ordered. And tracking info sent at that time or when usp/fedexe gets the shipment notice for it which is ussually the day before they pick it up. Cause thats when tracking number is assigned. I wont do bussiness with a company that doesnt provide that info and service automatically. Id go elsewhere for my item orders rather then thru the one you used. Can you cancel order? They should not have charged your cc yet. Unless fedexe/ups allready picked it up. In which case they should have allready provided you with tracking info.

Best of luck getting order cancelled and going with better store instead.

MF, GC and music123 all ship from a warehouse that's only 10 miles from my house. The ups truck has to pass by my place to get to the sorting center to get on another truck to get to me. I wish I could still just got to the warehouse, place my order and have it in ten minutes like old times :bawl:
