About to buy a Squier Affinity V

Yes, a SQUIER. Seller is selling it for $100. Reviews are all positive about them. I used to own a Squier Affinity Stratocaster and was amazed at how good it was.

For $100 you can't go wrong and if I don't like it, I can sell it for $100... Or use it as a fun modification platform.

:)

Ok, what's your opinion on these basses, guys?

I bought one to tour France with and have never regretted it. The only thing I changed was the bridge (to a Hipshot) & the strings (to flats). Mine sounds & plays great. No, it's not as nice as my $3000 Elrick, but I don't worry about leaving it in my hotel room or even in the van.

I got one a couple months ago just so I'd have a 5. Sounds pretty close to my MIM and I haven't found any flaws to it anywhere, all stock hardware/pups/etc are just fine. Considering I paid twice what you're getting it for I'd say it's a steal.

So I have the bass and it's exactly what you can expect for $200... Except I paid $100.

The pickups are crap, that's for sure. They sound very muddy. The is absolutely NO top end to them. Full on the bridge pickup, pull the string: barely any twang. The bridge is some sort of cheap allow. The nut is cheap plastic. That's the negatives.

The positives: the neck is very nice, no kink, no ramp. Fretboard is a bit scalloped on the low F, but that's about it. The action is ok as is. The strings are the original Fender strings, as I bought it from the first owner, who barely used the bass. They sound fine to me. The machine are Gotoh compact types, but with a few blemishes. I suspect that after inspection the crappy parts are shipped to Squier, the pretty ones go to better brands.

I say that if I find some pickups cheap, I will buy them and install them. Otherwise this bass is not worth investing into.

I am using this bass to see if I could like a 34" scale 5er, especially a Fender Jazz V before buying/building one.

Bought $100, sold $100 when I am done.
