    Double Bass Johan Rauner Bass

Whoops, meant BOE, not DOB. Yeesh, too many acronymns!

    Double Bass Johan Rauner Bass

Indeed, though it was called NYC DOB at that time. I think many (if not most) are gone by now. I know that Stuyvesant and Brooklyn Tech certainly don't have any left (with Brooklyn Tech having the worse stock, only a bunch of new Romanian-looking plywood basses). But when I was playing with...

    Wanted Used Spiro Mittel E

Just as the title says. I need to complete my new (but used) set of strings, which already consist of Permanent G-D and Spiro mittel A. PM me with any offers to sell. Thanks!

Double Bass Good E string for Drop-D tuning (3/4 bass)

Thanks for the advice! Looking to get Spiros for at least the lower two strings. I've agreed to purchase used Permanent G-D and a Spiro mittel A string already; all I need is a Spiro E. Let's see how it goes.

Double Bass Inexpensive Double Bass Bow Case

Just bought this case for my French bow: http://www.amazon.com/Casemaster-Supreme-Q-Vault-Billiard-Black/dp/B000RF95RM/ref=sr_1_2?s=leisure-sports-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1421255694&sr=1-2 The bow fits without needing to remove the cue stick divider. Even though the inside of the case is generally...

Double Bass Good E string for Drop-D tuning (3/4 bass)

Thanks all for the suggestions! I'm actually split between the Flexocors and Spiros. I've only started playing again after a few years of break, and I will be playing more jazz than classical .... for now. The Flexocors I have now are a bit muddy on the upper registers for the D-A strings for...

Double Bass Good E string for Drop-D tuning (3/4 bass)

Hello all, I play a 60/40 mix of arco/pizz, and am looking for a good E string that can be used for Drop-D tuning. My bass is a 3/4 plywood Thoma from the 60s, and it has a pretty deep and boomy sound (or maybe it's just the arco-friendly strings that I have on it now - Flex 92 med on ADG...

Double Bass Practice Space - NYC?

Ah, okay! I was thinking about first sneaking into the Queens College music school's practice rooms, but was thwarted when I found all of the rooms locked during my reconnaissance visit there. Good to hear that we could try to rent their rooms. Thanks for the tip! Also, QC's facility is...

Double Bass Practice Space - NYC?

Thanks! Seems mostly like monthly rentals. We're probably only looking to practice once a week generally, so hourly rentals are probably better. My pianist has his own keyboard, but I'd imagine it would be a huge pain in the ass for him to lug it around. So having a piano/keyboard available...

Double Bass string donations for Cubans?

I have a brand spanking new set of Super Sensitive Red Labels somewhere, but I'd hate to damage US-Cuban relations by subjecting Cuban bassists to those POS strings. That said, PM me if you're interested.

Double Bass Practice Space - NYC?

Thanks Michael! The prices are not as bad as I would have imagined, though still a bit expensive. The rooms look very nicely set up. I will definitely consider it, but also am looking for less expensive alternatives, perhaps in Queens (two of us live there, one lives in Manhattan).
