Hello NYC Talkbassists,
My friends and I have formed a small jazz band, and are looking for space to practice in the NYC area (preferably closer to Manhattan, and not in Jersey). A piano in the space is preferred, but not completely necessary.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I practice in 4 different spots in NYC.

All are affordable, and clean but, none have a piano unfortunately

Thanks! Seems mostly like monthly rentals. We're probably only looking to practice once a week generally, so hourly rentals are probably better. My pianist has his own keyboard, but I'd imagine it would be a huge pain in the ass for him to lug it around. So having a piano/keyboard available is definitely preferable.

IDK, maybe we'll try out the different hourly rooms to see which one is best. Thanks again!

Also, there are some music schools that rent rooms out for hourly rates that have pianos, I forgot I rented one at Brooklyn College once

Ah, okay! I was thinking about first sneaking into the Queens College music school's practice rooms, but was thwarted when I found all of the rooms locked during my reconnaissance visit there. Good to hear that we could try to rent their rooms. Thanks for the tip!

Also, QC's facility is really run-down considering that it was built as a state-of-the-art showcase back in 1991 The carpet is all stained and ripped (complete with duct tape repairs), the the walls have scuff and paint marks all over them, and the doors are all beat up and scuffed. And some of the bathrooms are marked "out of order". I used to take lessons there as a kid in the early 90s, and it was a pretty nice place back then. My older brother says that it was actually a bit rough back then too because, like nowadays, the college didn't take care of the maintenance of the building.
