I use a C8 + C4 (BG400 in this photo) setup like this and I really enjoy it: I would point out that, yes, the C8 is 56lbs/23kg but you can get them used for $500-$600 and they have wheels and built in handle. So it functions as a dolly too.

If you do this, will you keep the original ones or will you re add something like a Space Heater if someone just wants the boost/OD functionality of the UA?

the only thing that i personally miss about the [redacted b] versus the original slampegg is the ability to dial in grit/overdrive. i know sticking in a gain knob would be pushing it beyond the limit of what could fit in that box, but other than that it's a brilliant preamp IMO. i'm sure others...
