    H. - Bass Cover

Hi everyone, I've been learning more about home recording over the last few months. My latest effort can be heard below. For this tune, I was trying to get that bright, sharp metal tone. I'd like to see what people think. Personally, I think it's pretty decent for an amateur like me :)...

    Its absolutely killing me

In the past, I've been talked into playing gigs filled that essentially turned out to be "live rehearsals." Professional or not, I think that it's important to at least attempt to sound professional. Playing a sloppy set is lazy and you're totally correct to take umbrage at your bands...

A problem with the band leader...

Thank you everyone. There's talk of a rehearsal this week. Ruminating on my earlier intentions, and influenced by sound sound advice, I won't call him out in front of the band. However, if he falls into the usual routine, I'll have a word with him after the others have left. On a another...

A problem with the band leader...

Thanks for all of the replies. I've been thinking about the situation and I think that I know what I'll do. If (when) he decides to make a facetious comment towards me, I'm going to call him to task. I'm not going to be belligerent or anything. I'll just ask him why he's constantly on by...

A problem with the band leader...

Hi Everyone. For the last 18 months or so, I’ve been playing music with a composer / keyboardist. The project is an electronic band and the music is, to be fair, pretty damn good. For a long time, it was just the two of us. That changed over the course of the summer when we found a...

    Issues with former singer.

I'm very sorry for the situation you're in. It's really an issue that transcends music. When a friend is on a bad path in life, it's only natural to want to help him or her. You sound like a good friend, and I commend your tenacity in dealing with this guy's problems. As someone else...

    Best bargain P-bass

It's my opinion that when you buy a bass for 300 euro, you are going to get something that, whilst functional, really will be worth what you pay for it. That being said, I can suggest a tanglewood nevada bass as I've had one for years and it did its job well in my early playing days. I...

Stay with Ibanez or go to...?

I can second the recommendation of an SR premium as I own an SR1200 and I love it. Though it could never usurp my Fender in my affections, it's a solid bass.

    Am I wasting my time?

Thanks again for the replies. I actually feel some what better after reading this thread, it's nice to know that my frustrations aren't unique! I suppose that my big problem comes from the fact that I played no gigs between the ages of 19 and 24 and I haven't played a gig in just over two...

    Am I wasting my time?

Thanks lads, many great replies as always. Some more info. I don't think superb would be the word I'd use to describe the music but it is good and it does allow me play in ways I enjoy so in that sense, that would be good for me. We actually did have a guitarist for a while but he left as...

Adding fret indicators to an unlined fretless?

I bought an unlined warwick corvette last summer and I marked out the frets using blobs of tip-ex (I think it's called "white-out" in the US) on the edge of the fingerboard. It scraps off easily if you want to remove it and it doesn't spoil the look of an unlined fretless.

    Am I wasting my time?

Hi folks. This is just a question for far more experienced musicians than I, of which there are many. Single August of last year, I've been playing with a keyboardist/composer with the aim of setting up an electronic band. The guy writes some good music and I get on well with him so I can't...

    The right effects for metal?

I've learned a few and I'm compiled a long list of tunes I want to learn. Mostly, I've been looking at Tool songs as I've wanted to explore unusual time signatures but I'm also going over some Mudvayne Dream Theater, which is limited slightly by my lack of a 6-string bass. I know that...

Why do you own more then one bass?

I own several basses but I find that only my fretted 4-strings get a lot of use. The advantage for me comes down to tone and the massive advantage of having a backup instrument on standby. I I were to play a gig, I would have at least two basses with me because you just never know...

If someone handed you $3000 for a new bass

I would probably add some of my own cash and get myself a custom bass. However, if we're limit out imaginations to that three grand, I'd probably look at getting myself Music Man 6-String Bongo.
