Are you using a proper speaker cable to connect head to cab? I cleaned up a similar issue by upgrading to a quality 12-gauge speaker cable. (and it's cheaper than a new cab ;-)

Check out the Hartke LH500, LH1000 or the Hartke KILO. Very clean and great bang for the buck.

I ended up at 0.9 on the volume dial... I was told the GS212 sounded great about 20 feet out front but I couldn't hear much in close. The cab is too big for a small venue. so maybe a smaller cab for the smaller folky gigs... Any comments on the diff between a DB112 and a GS112 as a...

The LH500 is 500w @ 4 ohms w/ tube preamp (cheap at ~$400!!) and the GS212 is a 600w 4ohm cab so they match well. Love the sound... very clean and round with good punch. Mind you, I just moved up to this from a 100w 12" combo... BIG improvement!! I'm still playing with all eq at 12 o'clock...

Count me in... got a great deal on a GS212... gottawholelottabass!

Also be sure to check the internal speaker impedance and the amps' minimum load on any combo you consider. Many combos have an internal 4-ohm speaker(s) in order to use the maximum power from the amp. If the amp is only rated to drive a 4-ohm minimum load then you can be hooped regarding adding...
