Myself, I use a 5 string tuned to C C G C F so I can drop it heavier if I need to, using a fairly clean overdrive so it has the edge, but it hasn't lost the clarity. I've boosted the mids quite a lot as well as which let's me cut through quite well.

Same in mine, my singer can't set up a PA to save his life even after I've shown him numerous times over the last 2 years. One of my guitarists knows how to get a nice tone but if he changes anything he's lost, and the other... Well his nickname is squealer as he's pretty clueless
