Because I don't have a 3-string bass?

Those D-tuners are easy to take apart and clean and re-lube. The original lube gets gummy over time. I think they're 13:1, which isn't high-ratio, but mine work and stay in tune just fine (especially after cleaning).

Cool Join the Danelectro Owners Club, if you haven't already. I have one in copperburst, of about the same vintage. I have no problem with the small-key tuners, or the popsicle stick bridge.

That brightness is why mine wears flats. But I always have the tone wide open on my Danos also-- partly because I had this JJ first, partly because the JJ replaced a (12-pound!) jazz bass which I also usually played with the tone wide open.

Danelectro necks have a flat heel. Most aftermarket necks have a rounded heel. I got around this once be slightly flattening the rounded heel on an aftermarket neck, and adding a flat shim at the heel. It's not cosmetically perfect, but it works for me. If I'd done it for someone else, I'd be...
