    Fender Jazz Elite preamp

Hey there, for a jazz bass project, I gave it a try to the Lusithand one. I cannot say about how long it will last before problems arrive, but I ca tell you that is one of the best onboard preamp ever tested: 4 bands EQ, 2 volume controls, scooped mid switch, active-passive switch, passive tone...

onboard bass preamp schematics with 4-band EQ (boost/cut) and stacked bass/treble & high mids/low mids + toggle and passive tone

Thank you all for the precious feedback. Geri O, the trickfish was the spark/inspiration to dare 4 bands. mayoayox, you read my mind: I like VV, but I can live with a blend pot. Passinwind, thanks for warning, I have some good skills but I also tend to overestimate them… budget is around 200$/€...

onboard bass preamp schematics with 4-band EQ (boost/cut) and stacked bass/treble & high mids/low mids + toggle and passive tone

Preface: I wanted to buy an Audere onboard preamp, but it's no longer possible, so I want to get in trouble and DIM. Background: I found a beautiful j-bass body, two pieces oiled ash, wisely combined for great wood-grain optics, a small pocket in the back (no screws, 4 neodymium magnets) to...

got some old CS '60 jazz PuPs: need to be re-potted???

...almost 1 year late... yes, I have the packaging, is neither the all black version, nor the red&white, but the specs are identical (see picture). They sound very similar to those in my 2011 Jazz bass, so now I'm bit puzzled: were these PuPs already implemented into the 2011 MIA Jazz Basses?

The mysteries of the Fender BXR115 (made in USA)

is there a way to modify that? True is that the former Eminence driver did not extend this low (by ear, no info are available). But we're talking about a very minor problem, that is noticeable only with some of my preset. I'm sure that I can easily modify those to get rid of the boom without...

The mysteries of the Fender BXR115 (made in USA)

well, quick update on the speaker replacement. tone-wise, it sounds very similar to the original one, with a couple of differences. it renders better the high-mids -probably because it has a frequency response that is a little more extended than the Eminence, and it renders way better the lows...

The mysteries of the Fender BXR115 (made in USA)

I hope so... it's a Bassman 100T. to use a famous quote, I know that I know nothing. it's true for my field, but when it comes to other fields, I feel helpless. thinking of those (many) who claim to have the solution for everything right there in their pocket...

The mysteries of the Fender BXR115 (made in USA)

lol... no the number of plies was my exaggeration. But he did ask all the other things. and honestly I'm not looking for a project, so I'll take the easy way and leave it as is now, with the two piezo tweeters. just as side question (and the reason why I thought of a crossover), somewhere I read...

The mysteries of the Fender BXR115 (made in USA)

apparently that was the case Agedhorse. however, the main speaker began to fart at mid power already, so I decided to re-invent the wheel: replace the 15" speaker and put a crossover, as many suggest. For the speaker, it was quite an adventure, as both Eminence and Fender first tried to dump me...

What driver to put in Rumble 115 cab?

my BXR115 made in USA has 2 DIY piezo tweeter which makes the cab sound great (I can say that as I had a second one w/o which sounded quite dark in comparison, so I sold that one). There is a specific thread about that, posted by me some 2 years ago, anyway since the cab seems genuine, I can say...

got some old CS '60 jazz PuPs: need to be re-potted???

I thought the same, until I found (second hand) a set in the original packaging with the price in Deutsche Marks, that reads: anterior to the year 2000 (a few years anterior, as the price in € was added to the price tag starting 1998, if I'm not mistaken). Differently to those marketed later...

got some old CS '60 jazz PuPs: need to be re-potted???

hi all, I bought a set of Custom Shop '60 Jazz pickups. They come from the end of the 90s, are those with the bridge copper plate with an "extension" to reach the bridge itself. Like they were back in the early 60s (e.g., Jaco's '62 JB). I've noticed that the wax covering the bobbin is basically...

Hughes & Kettner BassBase 250 Head needs repair

Thanks for your feedback. Not that I dreamt of an easy fix, but I hoped so... The cap had a capacitance fluctuating across the 0 (+/- 40 uF), I don't know if this is normal, no other cap in the circuit has such an erratic behavior. But the new one does exactly the same. Maybe this is the...

Hughes & Kettner BassBase 250 Head needs repair

Hi all, I've got a very old amp sold as defective. Why a defective amp? Because... I'm sentimental, it's the amp I bought after I joined my first serious band, some 30 years ago. I asked H&K for the diagram, but they don't give those away to private people. Does anyone have experience with this...

removing PART of the urethane painting

I'll have a look at the technique, thanks! Actually, I won't use it on the orange Sire, but I keep it for the future, when I have a swamp ash body in my hands
