    I seal my timber with a thin coat of water-based poly, before coating with TruOil.

    I use this method on my acoustic and ukuleles. If you don't have a sound-hole to tighten up the Allen headed bolt, go through the bottom strap hole with a long Allen key. I fit a jack socket strap there so it is a hole large enough for a 6mm Allen key. New Cumpiano neck joint
