GHS stopped making their " Red" nylon wrapped strings back in 1990. Black Diamond has a black coated string, but I believe they are ling scale only and roundwound over roundwound. I will find EVERY brand avail this week.

For those old enough to remember: I had a set of Black Diamond strings that were wraped in a rubber coating. Totally dead sound right out of the package. I had them on my original '64 Hofner for almost 15 years! Wish they still made those puppies. Talk about a perfect "dead tone" for that...

That is true in some cases. Not all though. The Rotosoumds are flats, with a coating. I peeled a set once after changing them. They were flats under the wraps. Hey, that rhymed. Lol
