My Dirt Bender - Another Jounal

I think the 5kHz roll-off likely has a lot to do with using a looper as the sound source. A lot of loopers have pretty aggressive LPF to filter out any aliasing. Zak's graphs (EQs set to noon) accurately represent what we see on our fancy spectrum analyzer. I'll post them again here for clarity:

Is the Empress Bass Compressor Really That Transparent?

With compressors, a very fast attack combined with heavy compression will result in the dynamics effectively changing the shape of the input signal, and that change of shape can cause distortion. Rolling back the Attack and Release knobs and/or using a lower ratio could help. The Empress...

    Empress ParaEQ Bass!?

Absolutely. This is one of the main purposes of the Empress ParaEq pedals, to identify and get rid of specific unwanted frequencies. I would set the Q to thin on either the low or mid EQ band, set the gain fully clockwise, and then turn the Frequency control until you find that squealing...

    Empress ParaEQ Bass!?

The block diagram goes as follows: HPF > EQ bands > low shelf / high shelf (they are in parallel) > LPF > Boost. There is not yet a Filter Cutoff Frequencies chart for the Bass ParaEq, I'll ask our engineers to generate one.

    Empress ParaEQ Bass!?

Not unless specific frequency bands are already prone to feedback for your instrument, in which case you can cut that band and never feedback again!

Thanks for the vote of confidence everyone! Unfortunately we are currently out of stock of the Bass ParaEq and Bass Compressor Blue (lots of silver though), but we should be sending more out into the world mid July. You can find our dealer list here to see if any of our dealers in your country...

Strange issue (TC Polytune --> Empress ParaEQ Deluxe)

Hi there, I'm sorry to hear you're having issues, but I'll help as best I can! How did you test the cable between the 2 pedals? It's possible that the patch cable is working in some applications, but not others. Not all patch cables strictly adhere to the 1/4" spec, so it's possible it works in...

    Empress ParaEQ Bass!?

The general rule is that the output impedance should be at least 10 times lower than the input impedance of what you're driving, so as long as what you're driving has a high input impedance, the difference between 100Ω and 600Ω will be negligible. Most non-mic preamps have anywhere between 10kΩ...

    Empress ParaEQ Bass!?

The output impedance of most contemporary guitar pedals is low. The Bass ParaEq output impedance is 100Ω, and (for example) the Radial JDI output impedance is 150Ω.

    Empress ParaEQ Bass!?

In a way, it does have a DI out. It can send out a balanced output which you could send to a mixing desk, PA, etc. The only caveat is that the balanced signal is not attenuated to mic level (~ -60 dBV). It remains at instrument level (~ -25 dBV). So if you are sending the output to a mic preamp...

    Empress ParaEQ Bass!?

For anyone curious how the Bass ParaEq differs from the ParaEq MKII and Deluxe, here is a concise list! 1. We've re-tuned all of the eq bands and filters to be more effective for bass applications. 2. The low shelf has been cleverly redesigned to be adaptive, where the break frequency...
