Shaping my G&L Kiloton to sound like a StingRay – Need EQ Tips!

Thanks a lot for this answer — it’s really helpful. The tip about using a DAW and my ears to shape the Helix EQ to match the curves is especially valuable, and I also really appreciate the advice about not rolling down the volume so the pickup keeps all the highs, and then shaping the signal...

Shaping my G&L Kiloton to sound like a StingRay – Need EQ Tips!

It’s never too late for a good contribution 😉. I’ll definitely take note of your EQ settings, and I agree it gets into StingRay territory, though with its own unique voice. I haven’t tried a 5-string Kiloton, but I bet it sounds great. And you’re right about the volume — keeping it below full...

Wow, it’s impressive how much wisdom some TBers have! Thanks for sharing all this insight.

Shaping my G&L Kiloton to sound like a StingRay – Need EQ Tips!

I’ve already learned that to get the best out of the Kiloton, it’s best to keep the volume at half. It overloads some pedals, and in the amps I’ve tried, it sounds better in the active bass input. The output of the MFD is just incredible. Better to have too much than not enough! Volume at half...

Shaping my G&L Kiloton to sound like a StingRay – Need EQ Tips!

Yes, all kilotons can be set to parallel, series, or single-coil mode using a switch. This allows for a versatile range of tones to suit different playing styles and preferences.

Shaping my G&L Kiloton to sound like a StingRay – Need EQ Tips!

Thank you all for your responses. I’ve lowered the pickup as much as possible, and the advice about the volume is a good one; it’ll help quite a bit. What I was asking, and maybe I didn’t explain myself clearly, isn’t whether it makes sense to do this or not, but rather how I could approach it...

Shaping my G&L Kiloton to sound like a StingRay – Need EQ Tips!

Hello everyone! I have an exceptional G&L Kiloton, and I’d like to experiment with bringing it closer to the Music Man territory. I’m curious to see what this beast is capable of. I have an HX Stomp, which allows me to use the EQ as the first pedal in my signal chain. My idea is that this...

Done! They're all here! Killer bass tone! Thanks to the TBer matdras for this magnificent blue label! So far, no issues with the Harley Benton, although I’m aware that half of the pedals have high power consumption (running at 18v). I hope it lasts!

    G&L Club Part 7

I know because I used to be in a Telegram group with that guy, and right when he bought it, he shared pictures from the mod process. Here's one where you can see the body of the Kiloton. Another amazing modification this guy did was to buy a 1981 G&L L-1000 and replace the fretboard (which...

    G&L Club Part 7

I actually bought it like this at a bargain price. Even today, I'm surprised that with the Kiloton's original price (around 600 bucks?), someone paid for a professional stripping and refinish job, only to end up selling it again just two months after that mod.

    G&L Club Part 7

Here is my Kiloton Tribute with a natural nitro open pore finish (after removing a thick Irish ale poly layer), now wearing its new cream pickguard (Pickguard Heaven). For those who have any doubts, I love this bass both for its hardware and the neck profile and finish. It’s an absolute beast!

    Fender Squier Sonic Series

Mine: I hit the jackpot with this Laurel lottery win; truth be told, the neck is top-notch, and it's essentially a Precision with a jazz neck, a 1.5-inch nut but on the wider side. I swapped out the pickup, copper shield, Alpha pots, orange drop, cloth wire, vintage bridge, thumbrest, and a...
