The silk is my favourite part. What pretty colours! lol. I actually wish more companies would do that.
I also would greatly appreciate a little bead inside the ball end that has the manufacturers name, series, and gauge. Or, better yet, let the silk wrap determine the series of string. I generally buy second hand instruments and have no idea what I'm getting into. In the past, I always left the strings on for as long as I could and had no idea what was on there. lol

Recently got my first L-series bass, an L-2500 ser. 750, and I love it. I've already rocked it out on two shows, and will be recording with it soon. However, I have noticed that in any mode (preamp or series/parallel), the treble and bass knobs barely make any difference to my ear. Even after I have changed strings to Hi Beams, different sound overall, but not much action from those pots. Am I the only one to notice this, or is there something wrong with my head? Seems like the MFD's are so damn hot even the stock circuitry cannot tame them. I still love the tones I get out of it, but was curious about other player's take on this subject.

I am pretty sure that's the same pup as on my Fallout. I definitely notice a difference using the tone knob and switch. I don't know if it's the same preamp as my MJ-4. I think it's different because mine also has a mid control. I'd say something isn't quite right with the bass itself or somewhere in the chain.
I wouldn't be too surprized if a wire came loose or something. Maybe if you sat down solo with a pair of studio monitor headphones (which will help block the acoustics) it'll be easier to tell what's working and what's not.

It is not the same preamp. MJ-4 is derived form M2000 model. It is more common type 3 band EQ that most players are used to on their active basses. The L2K electronics are their own thing. The bass and treble knobs are cutting only and are working even if the preamp is switched off.

For those who have any doubts, I love this bass both for its hardware and the neck profile and finish. It's an absolute beast!

How did that one escape the factory without a paint job?

I'd return it. At least it has a matching color headstock, though.

I actually bought it like this at a bargain price. Even today, I'm surprised that with the Kiloton's original price (around 600 bucks?), someone paid for a professional stripping and refinish job, only to end up selling it again just two months after that mod.

Used my SB-2 at our gig Saturday night. Only brought one bass, as I was told the stage was very small (I could have brought 2). It was very good for certain songs, but I missed my L-2000 on others. Will be bringing both (at least) from now on.

I know because I used to be in a Telegram group with that guy, and right when he bought it, he shared pictures from the mod process.

Here's one where you can see the body of the Kiloton.

Another amazing modification this guy did was to buy a 1981 G&L L-1000 and replace the fretboard (which wasn't in great condition) with an ebony one, including a refret, by the way. And that one lasted him about... 4 months?

He's a great guy, really passionate about basses. It's a shame we haven't talked in a while.

That's true. The electronics, including the preamp, in the MJ-4 and the M2000 are exactly the same. Only the pickups are different. Those are completely active basses and have tone controls that boost as well as cut. The L2000 has passive tone controls so they will work in passive mode. Their bass and treble controls only cut bass and treble. No boost is available. With the tone controls both on max, you get all the tone of the pickups as if there were no tone controls. From that point, you can cut bass, treble, or both using the tone controls. That's confusing, but if you're looking to boost a frequency, you can't do it on an L.

I had wanted a Tribute Irish Ale Kiloton for years. I always put it off because I have a USA Kiloton in emerald green metallic. Who needs two Kilotons, right? But about a year after G&L discontinued the Irish Ale, I gave in and bought a used one in "very good" condition from the GC in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. (No affiliation). It wasn't in "very good" condition...it was in mint condition, and I got a great deal on it. Beautiful. It quickly went to the top of my list of favorite basses I own.

Well, unplanned N(U)BD. I wasn't looking for another bass (who am I kidding, I'm always looking ) but I came across this Seafoam Pearl Green JB strung w/ DR Black Beauties on Craigslist. In the pictures it looks more blue than green, but in person you can really see how green it is. Love the color, and haven't seen a lot of basses in it. Popped up about 5 miles from work, so naturally I just HAD to go and take a look at it. Just a look, uh huh. Long story short, $300 later the JB and a Fender gig bag came home with me. Not a mark on it - it looks brand new. Perfect set-up on it, and the pups seem a lot hotter than the Squier JB I used to have.
