Not quite. Kilo pickup is farther from the bridge than the L2000 bridge pickup.
Also this topic of Kilo pickup placement comes up quite a bit. Feels like this thread goes in circles sometimes. Noting that I am happy to get dizzy on the ride.

Kilo pickup sounds nothing like the bridge of an L or an M. Hence why I think it would be cool to add an MFD pickup to the Kilo.
The linked bass is Brad's Custom Shop bass. I doubt he did what I was describing.

My plan, like the Climax I had seen, was to put the neck MFD right where the L-1000/L-2000 neck bucker went. The pickups would have been pretty closely spaced, kinda like a Warwick Double-Buck.
I thought about trying that single coil MFD from the SB-2 as a neck pickup on a Kiloton, but I was warned away from that by a couple knowledgeable people saying it was too weak for that. However, Memo from G&L tells me it's exactly the same as the single coil MFDs on the old-style SB-2, so I don't know what to think. I didn't try it. The split-coil MFD could also be an option. Or you could just buy the Kiloton from @ProbablyTooLoud and you'd be set.

For me the L-1500 and Climax would def need something to widen the sound palette, maybe offset their built-in raspyness. After three attempts to find joy in those monsters I finally surrendered. OTOH, for someone looking for the most aggro-obnoxious sound....
This dead mint 8lb, 1oz Climax below would've been The One, if only I could have tamed it. The seller already had flats on it, and was selling it because he couldn't tame it, either. Ignoring his warning, and at $425 shipped w/case, and in maybe the coolest Ltd G&L finish ever, I was cocksure I could make it work. The damn thing practically played itself, to boot. Alas, had to set it free. Could a kiss from a second MFD have turned this frog into a princess for me? Dunno, but in retrospect I like your approach.

If you're thinking about picking a used one of these up (or any Tribute JB), I recommend simply counting the frets. The Tribute (and USA) JB uses a 4-bolt, 20 fret neck. The Tribute Kiloton and SB-2 use 4-bolt, 21 fret necks. It'd be easy to mess that up.

Tested the Tribute L2000 and the Tribute Kiloton today. I seem to prefer the L2000 more. However I did not like the satin finish on the neck. Made it feel cheap but the build quality and finish is very good.

Pickups are identical. Preamp design is identical. Preamp components are better on US model (higher quality pots/switches). Bridge design is the same, but US bridge is different (materials if I remember correctly). US tuners are ultralights.
Effectively a US L2000 and a Tribute L2000 should sound/operate the same. The US one is going to feel a little higher quality. The differences are obvious when you have them sitting side by side.
Thanks a lot! Some YT review said all components are same as US bass. I was skeptical. Can't have that much difference in price without cutting corners on the hardware. It's only expected.
The maple on the Tribute is might light in colour. But the bass is nice. Real value for money.
Yeah I have seen the same "it's the same bass" comments. It is close to the same bass, but it is not the exact same. US one is better quality and gives you more choices on specs. Tribute gets you most of a US G&L for a fraction of the cost. If you want all of a US G&L, then you have to buy a US one. The Tributes are certainly an excellent value. My Tribute L2500 sounds nearly identical to my US L2500. They feel a little different though and the US one has options you cannot get on the Tribute (color choice, matching headstock, quarter sawn neck).
To me, the key point about the Trib vs USA debate is this: they basically sound the same.

I'm OK with the stock options. The one I saw was in Clear Orange with maple fingerboard. The grain on the body was just so so but at that price, can't complain. Only issue for me is the finish on the neck, feels like unfinished. But nothing a couple of light coats of poly can't cure. Gonna think about it carefully. Am most keen though.

Seems like I've seen my preferred 12" radius on several Tribute models.
I don't really pay much attention to the neck radius. I have a s***load of basses, and I just pick 'em up an' play 'em. I never really think about it. As long as they're set up to my liking, I'm good, and if they're not set up to my liking, I'm gonna have to fight them no matter what the radius is. The absolute best-playing bass I have is my NS Design WAV4, and it has a 15" radius. The second best-playing bass I ever had was a short-scale Mosrite Celebrity. That was over 50 years ago, and I have no idea what the radius was. I traded it in on a '70 P-bass. I have no idea what that neck radius was either, but I played the heck out of it for many years.
I think P Bass players would like that chunky neck. I'm a J Bass guy so I like em a bit thinner. All good though.
