Why not. It's only one of the infinite number of ways you can mod a L2000.
I don't care for passive tone but I know some of us love it. I like the idea of a separate single/parallel/series for each pickup, but I would add the "OMG" mod.

MFD pickups are hot. Boost preamp setups do not work well with hot pickups. I like the G&L preamp setup as is. Only thing I would change is removing the active/passive switch and swapping it for a treble cap selector switch. Did this mod on a Tribute L2500 and it works great.
I am not sure why you describe the treble control as not being similar to a passive tone control. If it is working correctly, it is the exact same as a passive tone control (treble cut only; potentiometer/cap bleeding off high frequency signal; capacitor determines cutoff frequency).
If you really want a more traditional active preamp setup in an L2500, go find an M2500. The pickups are lower output to better fit the use of a 3 band onboard preamp.

I know that it's a passive tone/treble reduction control…but the effect is different than I'm used to…glad you mentioned the cap. I'm guessing it's just using a cap that I'm unaccustomed to.
These pickups actually work great with a boost eq! Have heard it done myself….but that supports the idea of using a boost/cut eq control..so thanks!

Picked this up last Week. Absolutely a quality instrument in every way. I also picked up a lake placid blue tribute this week as a backup also. There's a good bit of quality feel difference and the Fullerton definitely sounds better. The tribute is still a great bass at its price point though.

I am so happy with my newish BTO JB, such great build quality. Loving the fact that now my Jazz (JB) & P-Bass (LB-100) have the same 1 5/8" neck, makes swapping between basses effortless!

What a surprise was bumping a bass I have in classified and got a PM from a TBer here and asked if still interested in 2005 L2000? I sold this bass back in 2016 to cover funds for another bass of course. I tried to get it back later but seller must have quit monitoring his messages? Thought I would never see the bass again! So it is on its way back to me and should be delivered this Monday if FedEx keeps their word?

Hello! Can someone tell me what was the price difference between L-2500 standard tribute and premium? I'm currently looking for a used one.
Also I've seen G&L "Custom" - ash body, maple top and strings through body - is it considered "premium" or it's even higher tribute tier?

Premium are a made in Japan version of G&L. My understanding is that they are of a good quality. So I think they tend to rate between Tribute and USA made models.
Tribute = mostly Indonesian or Korean made (earlier ones were Korean), there are also Japanese made ones, but they are less common
Tribute premium = Japanese made as the premiums were only Japanese
L2500 Custom = early US made L2500 (should have 4+1 headstock)
That is not a Custom (which is an early model US made L2500 w/4+1 headstock). That is an Indonesian made Tribute L2500 Carved Top. I would rank it slightly above a normal Indonesian Tribute (higher quality top wood + top shape), but below the Japanese made Tribute Premium.

That is a 2010 Tribute L2500, a very fine bass. If they're representing it as something special over and above a regular Tribute L2500, it's because of that nice grain on the top. The initials R and N undoubtedly mean rosewood fretboard and a natural finish. The pickups will be USA made MFDs, just like on the USA model. The saddlelock bridge is probably also the same as on the USA model. I own a Tribute L2500, and it's a righteous axe. For what it's worth, G&L has the 4-string version (L2000) in a sunburst listed on their web store for $775. To me, that's ridiculous for a B-stock Tribute when you can get a new L2000 with free shipping from any number of retailers for $800. The L2500 normally lists new at most retailers for $850. I paid $500 for my used satin black / maple Tribute L2500 in excellent condition about 3 1/2 years ago. Maybe that will give you a reference point.
Thank you. So, it's not some kind of more expensive special/limited edition, but older release with a little bit more premium stuff in it that changed over time to cut production costs or something? Because newer L-2500 from the official website does not have strings-through-body bridge and it's ash top on poplar body instead of ash body.
G&L did make changes to their Tribute instruments through the years. I had a 2008 blueburst L2500 about 6-7 years ago that had through-body stringing. I've owned a number of Tribute basses since then, one even being my current L2500. None except that 2008 L2500 had string-through-body. I dont think with that saddlelock bridge that string-through-body really adds anything. My opinion would be that it's a stock L2500 from 2010. That makes it a fine instrument.
