What you're proposing (spelling out the options) is a good way to go. Their expecting you to provide this service for no additional fees is unrealistic.

Pino Palladino has a P Bass with T-Bird PU's installed. That might ring the bell for you. If you're handy with a router, you could put together a 'Partscaster' for pretty short money. Then, if you like what you hear you could 'ramp it up' (i.e. better parts).

Sometimes you need Sparkle and Brightness... Sometimes you don't. Different arrows to put into the quiver.

I'm thinking it's the strings. If this is a new instrument, the strings are going to be new as well. Plus - he had the tone knob dimed for the first part of that demo.

I have a 2200. Took the aluminum speakers out, replaced with Eminence DeltaLite Neo speakers. Sounds GREAT>
