    Is the bass to heavy?

Agreed. Can that weight be found anywhere on the Thomann website? It would be crazy heavy for a V7. Maybe a 1. Gen swamp ash 5-string V7 could be that heavy, but I doubt it.

Thank you. The challenge is to find the right size, but that sounds like a good way to do it. The B-550's PU's are aprox. 10.8 x 3.1 mm. It seems like Bartolini P2's are pretty close at 10.8 x 3.2 mm.

The pickup shows no resistance (as in circuit broken, missing connection somewhere). But the pickup is completely sealed off with glue. I don't think it's possible to open it up without damaging it beyond repair. Do you have the old type of bridge on your 650 (with 6 individual bridge pieces)...

My B-550 LH, now in ruby red. The project didn't went well though.:sour: The paint job isn't flawless. But far worse: somehow (and I have no idea why) the bridge pickup went dead during the process. I've switched the pickups around so that I have functional PU in the bridge position (which is...

Thank you! After a bit of experimentation it seems like they've used a linear pot rather than a logarithmic pot for the tone. So that should be an easy fix when I get the right pot.

If I end up playing it a lot, I will probably upgrade it with better tuners, new nut and maybe a bridge with threaded saddles so that I can adjust the string spacing a bit. That should make it every bit as nice as a Squier CV or something like that. But first I need to do something about the...

My latest foray into the world of Harley Benton and also my first p-bass. It has a few imperfections; a few slightly sharp fret ends, the ends of the nut feels a bit sharp too, the strings aren't perfectly aligned over the PU and the tone pot has the wrong taper (which is very common in low cost...

    Sire Bass Club!

I've had two tuners on my 1. Gen V7 replaced under warranty. I can tell from pictures that the 2. Gens have different tuners, and they look more robust. But I don't know how much better they are. I think the P7 had these upgraded tuners right from the beginning, but all the 2. Gen V7's and P7's...

    Sire V7 vs. V7 Vintage

On the 1. Gens: The Vintage has a different bridge, 70’s pickup spacing, differently voiced neck pickup, black block inlays and binding and maple fretboards only. On the new 2. Gens: All of the above plus: the regular V7 now has a satin finish neck with 9.5” radius fretboard while the Vintage...

Exactly, they are made out of some kind of soft pot metal. The replacement tuner I got the first time it happened was the same type as the old tuners. So while I might make a warranty claim on this one as well, it’s a bit frustrating to know that I am only postponing the problem by replacing one...

...and my V7 (1. Gen) just started to strip the threads on another tuner:sour:

Not worth the money nor the trouble, if you ask me. The Sire preamp is really great and it has been tweaked to match the pickups on the V7 to perfection. Installing a "generic" preamp would likely make the instrument worse, I think.

I think the 5-string bridges are always mounted that way, with 6 screws at the bottom. The 4-string bridges has the 4 screws in the corners.
