    Gail Ann Dorsey Interview Segment

I love her playing with the French guitar player M (Matthieu Chedid). She's just great.

Electrical cabling question for stage setup

Just to add a post-gig comment : 1. I set up lights on a different extension cable from the amps and PA, and didn't have any problem. The cables were plugged into a sort of industrial terminal, so perhaps they were truly separate, I have no way to know. I had no noise. 2. The guitarist's noise...

Electrical cabling question for stage setup

Thank you all for you insights and experience! I'm in charge of laying cables, so I'll watch out for parallels, crossings, isolation (of LED from audio circuits). I may even try a battery powered Preamp/DI. I have been wondering why people in these forums are running pedals like the Anagram on a...

Electrical cabling question for stage setup

The show was an outdoor gig with extension chords. We had two main chords, one intended for lights, one intended for all the rest. I personally think we are pulling too much on the everything-else line (PA, amplified speakers, monitors, pedalboards (for DI), one small tube amp, and a piano. The...

Electrical cabling question for stage setup

It's possible that my pedals are the real problem. I've turned on the noise gate in the Cab M, with the absolute minimum setting and it seems to resolve hum that I have here just using an active speaker. I'll try that tomorrow, but also will bring my backup preamp.

Electrical cabling question for stage setup

Interesting, thank you. But how to troubleshoot? All the plugs are power strips and extension cables, with the ground pin (round French plugs). However, two of my pedals are only 2 prongs (old Carl Martin pedals) and could be plugged in either way. Could that maybe be the issue you are talking...

Electrical cabling question for stage setup

Hi - I ran into a problem a stage setup problem the other day with my band: I had electrical hum that I couldn't get rid of! My usual pedalboard does not make noise, at least none that I hear at home or in practice. The usual "ground-lift" button tricks were not working at all, cables all...

I agree with you... it's a hard choice. I thought it through and went with the Delano stacked humbuckers and Mayones own preamp. I love the sound!!! Very thick and round on the neck, bright and punchy on the bridge.

    Darkglass Anagram Multi FX Announced

So, for a good "amp in the room" feel, based on whatever blocks and amp models you use, would people generally think a good amplified "FRFR" bass cabinet would be best? Like a GR or Barefaced?

    Main bass

Ever since I got my Mayones Patriot, I hardly ever touch my other basses. Still, I take the Jazz bass out when there is a risk of rain or harsh conditions, as I know it is robust enough for that.

The Time has come, but do I want to do it?

My teacher was very clear about this: you can get equipment or instruments if and whenever you want, but that's really not going to make you a better (more knowledgeable) player. Spend your time studying and practicing music!!

How well do other band members need to hear you?

My band will also cancel rehearsal if I can't be there. The drummer won't even play with the bass being present, not even with guitar and piano doing their job. Group sound is a tricky thing, I tend to think everyone needs to be able to hear everyone, or cues will be missed and general coherence...

I love my 4-string Patriot, with its Delano stacked humbuckers. It gives me all the sounds I want with all my amps and pedalboards, and it plays smooth like a classical guitar if I want to do choral work. This one thing always makes me giggle though... [total irony and not a criticism in any...

Succumb to the temptation of a good deal or wait for something exactly like I want?

Must have a bass that speaks to you.
