Mayones owners club.

Can I hear from some Ori owners how you like them? Good, bad, ugly, other? All thoughts and details appreciated.

My Ori Enji arrived yesterday….unfortunately FedEx did not take care. I’ve been having basses shipped for 15 years and I’ve never had an instrument show up without a box. How FedEx destroyed the box is beyond me but bass arrived in its gig bag. opened it up and everything looked fine, got it inside and realized it was damp. The pickup screws already rusting. For the cost of this bass, I don’t feel comfortable about possible future neck or electronic issues. Sucks after a six month wait.

Dude that sucks. I assume you sent it back? Any issues with FedEx or Mayones? Did you get a replacement?

I own the orange bass and it quickly became my main bass. It sounds and plays beautifully with exceptional craftsmanship. My only minor complaint is the bridge intonation and height system but it’s nothing serious.

How's the balance?
The upper horn is short but tilted, so it's hard to guesstimate.
I'll eventually get a 2nd Mayones multiscale, unsure if it'd be another Patriot or an Ori.

I love my 4-string Patriot, with its Delano stacked humbuckers. It gives me all the sounds I want with all my amps and pedalboards, and it plays smooth like a classical guitar if I want to do choral work. This one thing always makes me giggle though... [total irony and not a criticism in any way!!!] I'm glad they put that sticker on the back reminding me not to throw the instrument out with my regular trash. :)

She’s here 😻

Is it possible I am one of the first owners of this particular model and finishes?

Fantastic sounding bass. Warm, full yet punchy and clear mids. The headphone amp is amazingly quiet in operation.

Playability and setup is spot on. Construction is flawless. One of the best necks I’ve ever played.View attachment 7507455View attachment 7507456View attachment 7507457View attachment 7507458View attachment 7507459View attachment 7507460View attachment 7507461View attachment 7507462View attachment 7507463

Has anyone been able to compare some of the pickups offered by Mayones? Their Noble and Stark soapbars are of interest to me, but sadly Mayones seems to have posted 0 clips of either, instead focusing on their guitar pickups. There’s also the Aguilar and the many other options out there. I’m interested in getting a custom, but without seeing, playing, or hearing one in person, it’s quite the leap to make.

The other avenue I’m considering is a Dingwall ABZ with Super Fatty pickups. Pretty different basses though.

I agree with you... it's a hard choice. I thought it through and went with the Delano stacked humbuckers and Mayones own preamp. I love the sound!!! Very thick and round on the neck, bright and punchy on the bridge.

I just got my first mayones bass. i was inspired by a couple of Eugene Abdukhanov of jinjer playthorughs. ive only played it for a couple of hours (damn job), but its great so far.

very nice looking bass! Are those the noble pickups? What made you decide on those, or was it Eugene’s videos? I thought he was still using Overload basses so that was a nice surprise to see he moved over to Mayones.

Have you ever played a Dingwall to compare with?

Yes the are the noble pickups. i was looking around the mayones website and it sent me to the music loft. i wasn't too picky on the specifics. i just wanted to avoid the wait and luckily this one was available. they do sound awesome though.

i think he started playing mayones within the last year or so.

i have 3 dingwalls (2 more on order). im a bit of a fanboy admittedly. what do you want to know?

He has moved to Mayones. He played the entire last (European?) tour with two Ori Enji (blue and black).

I saw them back in December opening for Trivium, I don’t recall what bass I saw him playing, but regardless he sounded fantastic.

How is the neck size/shape of your Jabba compared to a Dingwall? I can read the specs, but unlikely to get to feel either beforehand.

i would say the neck on the VF5 is comparable to the NG3/Combustion basses. to me, they both feel very similar as far as shape/thickness. very comforatable to play. String spacing is the same as well.
The Z is a different beast though. very thin neck. its easily my favorite.

as far as pickups, i think the super fattys in my Z3 are my favorite, but i do like the nobles a little more than FD3n so far. i really like the way the nobles sound when i play slap. i think the pre amps do a lot of heavy lifting as well. the neve is amazing.

my mayones opinions are basically first impressions, but i was very impressed with it in the short time i have had so far. i think my opinions will only go up the more i play.

they all really do sound awesome though. you cant go wrong.

sorry im not super detailed, but im typing this in between taking calls at work lol. maybe i will make a video comparing them if i get some free time.

That was great, thank you.

Is your Z3 with SFii’s the neve preamp? I was most interested in those pickups from Dingwall as the stereotypical Dingwall sound is not for me, even though I’m a metalhead, but I started hearing some clips of the FD3’s with the darkglass preamp and I was pleasantly surprised. Luckily there’s a decent amount of clips out there.

I’ll be asking Mayones for any clips of Noble vs Stark.

Yes, the Z3 has the SF. im putting those and a p tone in my effigy.
I also have to the JT, so i have the neve with both pickup types. They both sound great, but i perfer it with the SF.
