Mayones owners club.

To say this has been an underwhelming experience is to put it very mildly.

Please don't hesitate updating how your unfortunate situation pans out.

I've been very pleased with my Mayones, so much so that I'm deliberating selling off my other basses to put the money into a 2nd one. You've asked here in order to get some help, but you're providing a lot of help yourself regardless of how the fingerboard mishap resolves. That said, I of course sincerely hopes that it resolves to your complete satisfaction with haste.

This came in yesterday. Neck dimensions and string spacing like on a Hadrien Feraud, and with the same control layout as well, but with a different pre-amp and pickups, and without a ramp or pickguard.
I have never felt so comfortable with a 5-string bass before - it feels, plays and looks amazing. And it's surprisingly light (swamp ash with spruce top).
Very, very nice instrument indeed!

Very nice! I got one of these and replaced the pickups and preamp with Nordstrands. The bass is great, the stock electronics are IMO a bit weak sounding (in comparison).

Hah, and I thought this was a one-off... it has the placement of the controls like the HF signature (not like a standard Jabba), but it has Aguilar pups and their own Mayones pre-amp. The electronics are indeed a bit weaker than the Delanos and pre-amp in the HF models, but not too bad... still, I will keep the suggestion in mind. Thanks!

Oh sorry, I meant I got the stock HF model, and for my tastes the Delano pickups seemed wimpy sounding. The Nordstrands are fatter sounding, and I actually put an East Uni Pre in there which is great. I don’t play the type of music that Hadrien does, and I certainly don’t have his hands or talent, and obviously the bass sounds great when he plays it.

I also own an HF (the 4 string variant) and quite like the Delanos. But, yeah, depending on your musical needs or playing style, you might want more oomph ;)

So far the dealer has been great - quick communication and they have offered to take the hit on this bass and get another on order. I'm a little reluctant to wait another 13 months after this.

I'm not entirely sure how this error was made, so I am trying not to speculate on the reason for the mistake. I just wished they would engage with me. I can understand them not wanting to field generic sales questions, that's why they have a relationship with the dealers. But this situation is a little beyond that scope, and I don't think it unreasonable to expect Mayones to act with a little more care and urgency than currently displayed.

The fingerboard is entirely plain & unlined. Patriots are neck-through, so I can understand not being able to "replace" the neck, but the fingerboard should be entirely replaceable.

I have reached out to the guys over at Shuker, who have said they would be happy to take a look at replacing the fingerboard - so I am currently waiting for the bass to arrive back at the shop so we can send over some pictures.

I absolutely did not mean to cause any anxiety with this, I am sure your bass will arrive earlier than expected and be an utter joy to play.

Fretboards are replaceable but this is a difficult ask on a neck through instrument. If the instrument has a gloss finish, they may have to do a lot of work beyond just the fretboard and the result would likely not be up to their standard. They would be better off making you a new instrument but that comes with a time cost.

I am wondering whether Mayones has arrived at that stage of a company's development where they start to be overwhelmed by their own success and sloppiness and lack of qualified staff are creeping in!?

I jumped off the Mayones ship a few years ago. I liquidated all of my Mayones instruments. They were great to work with back in the 2010-2015 period. The original Mayones distributor in the US might have been a bit sketchy but the prices were great back when it was just the distributor and no dealer network. The build times were more reasonable and I paid a much lower cost.

Yeah, I didn't mean to imply that their level of quality was going down. In fact, I think their instruments are insanely well designed and made. I own three and am very happy with them. I was just wondering whether the "prize" for this are longer and longer wait times, and where the "pain threshold" for wait times might be for most people...

I still think very highly of their basses unlike the guitars. But at their current price point and delivery time for a bass, they don't have any advantage over many of the other smaller builders in the same space. When I bought my Mayones instruments, the were not as well known and I could deal directly with the US distributor. The price was good and the wait time was not long. Even then, you were not going to get regular update photos from them. I don't think I ever received update photos for my bass. For my guitar, I received two sets but very near the end of the build.

I stopped using my custom Mayones Comodous when I got my Marleaux Constat 5 string.

As for the wait time, it is up to the individual but wait times across the board are very high at the better known makers. I don't think Mayones times are ridiculous but I have guitar builds with a certain guitar maker that usually runs four years. So I might be an exception. A wait time of a year give or take is unfortunately the norm at many reputable makers.

I like it, even though it's a bit too Dingwall.
Don't see why the radius ought to be 9.5'', in particular.

I'm lefthanded, so there's a limited selection of 34-37'' multiscales. These are slightly pricier than I think they should be for Mayones to truly compete with Dingwall, but I'm already deliberating parting with other instruments to have one of these as a dedicated D standard instrument.
