Thanks for your comment on my screen name. It was more true a few years ago. Now, I pretty much just supply the car. And for all you Detroit/Ann Arbor folk in need of flight case rental, Wilson's Violin in Birmingham has two of them.

Anyone know where in metro Detroit/Ann Arbor to rent a flight case? Not lovin' the idea of having to go to Grand Rapids to secure a case.

David Orlin of Ann Arbor has told me he is making bass bows.

We live near Gary Ritter Strings too. He did some work on my son's Chinese laminate that really seemed to improve the sound.(new end pin and tail wire) We also bought a decent French bow from Gary. PS - Ben, my son now has a NS Cleveland too.

If you are considering renting your bass out and being compensated for it, you should check your insurance coverage to be sure it would apply in the event of an incident during the rental period.

Does anyone have info on who may be in the running to replace Hurst? I have not seen any official announcement by IU about this either - which makes me wonder...

We now own a fully carved New Cleveland. A beautiful bass with a big sound. It's at GH now for a few tweaks...fingerboad extension and bridge re-shaping. Bow is decent and has recently been re-haired by a top notch guy in Ann Arbor. Thanks to everyone for the words of wisdom. Now it's just...

Any suggestions on where to look for bass options in the Detroit area? We've been to a few of the more notable bass shops in MI. Is a trip to Cincinnati in order? Are there hidden gems in MI that we may have missed?

Thanks Paul. He's been really successful with the ply, so up until now it has not been an issue. It's just that he's thinking this is what he wants to do in college, and I do see that most of the other kids at his level are already on carved instruments or upgrading their carved instruments...
