ha, that video totally made clicking on this thread "worth it". Not a big fan of the P/J setup my 1st bass was a P Lyte. I know, unfair comparison. Now if only the Toxic Avenger played bass....

Bought this bass in Nov '01 off the bay sight unseen. It's a Fender American Standard. Took my chances but received a great instrument. Slapped a warmoth birdseye maple Jazz neck and black pickguard on it. Got some great basses, but this one does everything I need and has the scars to prove it...

It's like how much more black could this be, and the answer is.. none, none more black...

Got a '74 Ric and '75 P here. Always grab the Ric first (had the P since 2000, acquired the Ric this year) A good P in your stable is a must IMHO. FWIW I parted ways with a refin '72 ash body P to get the Ric. Blasphemy I know, but with 2 1/2 other P's I figured the Ric was a must have.
