David Gilmour - Best Pink Floyd bassist !

Gotta love these threads.
If it aint wanking bass, I guess it doesn't count.
Roger Waters actually played some Perfect lines for many of the tunes. Yeah, it's not Jaco or Victor all over the board, but - many of those lines worked. Perfectly.

I always thought that line on Money needed some double-thumb slap. Too bad he couldn't pull it off. Imagine how many more records they could have sold.
Yeah, I listen to Pink Floyd for many reasons. But when you play Pink Floyd, you certainly pay attention to these things.
There is nothing wrong with the bass lines that Roger laid down for Floyd. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but at the end of the day all of the members from PF either wrote or contributed in making music that has stood the test of time.
The bass line to money is killer, and I doubt many of us will ever come close to writing song or bass line that would be as popular in our respective life times.
I personally think that more of us should be worrying about honing our craft instead of judging musicians who have already stamped their mark on the history of popular music.

More like, why do you have such a jaded view of what makes a good bassline?
You don't understand Pink Floyd, or Waters' input into their sound. That is your problem, not Waters. Waters is a little like Phil Lesh... a flats-pick player (no doubt serious crimes in your book) who played out and loud. If you ever get Pink Floyd bootlegs from the early 1970s Roger's playing dominates.
If you check out what he plays here, especially the five note turnaround before every verse you should understand why I appreciate him.

There are rumors of Roger playing the solo with his Ric and a violin bow.
Roger really played his #$$ off in the early days, but as time went on Roger began to focus on the song, more importantly writing the song. Remember Roger began on guitar, and according to him was demoted to bass.
Most people I talk to think Piper sounds silly and dated, and I can see where they're coming from. Trying to play these songs with a band accurately is actually kind of tricky.
My 2 cents.

I have heard that Gilmour played on at least 50% of their bass tracks. Could be, who cares?
None of them are known as great technical musicians. That being said, the most intense moments of the Pink Floyd songs are usually those incredible solos that only Gilmour can play.
