Targa bass I found in a pawnshop recently for $200. I'm guessing Japanese and early 80's. I don't know if the P-Bass pickup is stock, but it sounds bright and aggressive. The Jazz pickup is useless by itself and the pickups are out of phase with each other. But the P-Bass pickup plus...

Sometimes, sometimes not. Lots of people hang on to gear and have to have some reason to let it go before they actually do. Someone offering to pay current market price or better would definitely be one of those reasons.

This is a YMMV situation. I've been able to find vintage stuff by posting CL wanted ads. Didn't take long either. The OP is willing to pay top dollar, apparently, so that's another factor that goes in his favor as far as finding a bass.

Cast a wider net. Vancouver and Toronto.

There's plenty of older Mustang basses in Canada. Just do wanted ads on CL and kijiji and see what pops up. $2500 is a bit steep (guys who are hoping to sell their Mustangs will no doubt disagree).

I'm thinking I got lucky to get the partucular T-Bird that I did. I found an Embassy and another T-Bird at another L + M yesterday, and they were both disappointing. The Embassy felt cheap and had nasty fret sprout. The T-Bird had a comically thick neck.

Where did you find those ???

Just got the black Bird at Vancouver L+M. They also have a white and sunburst. Sounded good through the V4b reissue they had in the store, but I was really dazzled once I ran it through the old Traynor TS 50 w/2×12 (Greenbacks) at home. The bass also sounds great unplugged/acoustically. Didn't...
