Drummer quit before he could be fired! lead singer follows suit

He also could have quit playing music forever. Or painted his car black with thousands of bottles of nail polish. Or robbed a bank. It's simply an undisputable fact that he could have cancelled his other band's gig. I said nothing about the morality involved. I only do one band at a time...

Drummer quit before he could be fired! lead singer follows suit

drummer insisted on playing to a click track For one thing, he didn't use in-ear monitors. He played the click off of an app on his phone into one earbud. So none of us could hear the click he was listening to. Only two out of the 5 of us use in-ears. He had to keep time through all intros...

Drummer quit before he could be fired! lead singer follows suit

I probably should have posted in bass humor and gig stories, and folks might take my tone less seriously. I'm not mad at any of my bandmates or seeking advice. I was just trying to share my band experience of the past couple months and commiserating about things getting crazy and stressful.

Drummer quit before he could be fired! lead singer follows suit

There's a huge difference between me thinking he should cancel his other band's gig, and pressuring him to do it. @LBS-bass suggested I "insist [they] be willing to bail on commitments" and "experience a lifetime of nagging." These are things none of my bandmates have ever experienced...

Drummer quit before he could be fired! lead singer follows suit

Sorry, I didn't mean to come across that way at all! It's just, this is talkbass and we're definitely supposed to fire the drummer! I would probably have kept the lead singer, if was solely up to me. Our guitarist was the one pushing to replace him. I never want to be in that position of...

Drummer quit before he could be fired! lead singer follows suit

You're making a lot of assumptions about me here. I NEVER suggested to the drummer that he should cancel the other gig. I never "nagged" him about it. His other band was booked first and I respected that. Lead singer definitely pressured him to cancel on the other band, but I did not...

Drummer quit before he could be fired! lead singer follows suit

Totally agree! Its just context for what a mess the whole thing was -- lead singer was so gung ho to get the yacht rock project going he steamrolled over every objection. When i refused to do half the gig with a sub he got his rich buddy to kick in extra money to change my mind. Its just all...

Drummer quit before he could be fired! lead singer follows suit

We are a rock cover band with an alter ego yacht rock band. Our new(ish) lead singer pushed us to develop the yacht rock band in January and got us two gigs out of it. We got paid well for them. Old drummer is a weird dude. Never seemed to smile or laugh. Frequently on his laptop working...

    Korg i3 DAW?

I use Reaper, but it's utterly lacking in inspiration. No built in instruments or drum loops. If Logic has a lot of the virtual instruments that Garage Band does, that's what I'd go with. My buddy uses garage band and the amp emulators, synths, and drum loops are really nice. I'd love to...

Saintseneca breaking multiple bass guitar taboos!

This is my favorite new band of the past ten years. Watch in horror as my man Zach plays chords (sorta), uses a pick, and (gasp) a capo. But the song is so good.

The song to the end of the world

I think this song is like one of the buddhist prayer wheels, affecting the world with each spin. After it's been listened to enough times, it will actually bring about the end of the world. Youtube sound quality definitely not great on this one though.

    Suggestions for Performance Combo Amp

I'd be considering a POD Go and a powered PA speaker for everything. I had a gig last summer where I played some ubass and some electric guitar. Each went through the Pod and had their own patches, into the powered speaker (a little Alto). Just hit the tuner to mute and switch cables to...

New Bandmate is a little too enamored with my playing ...

The singer in our group really praises all of us and it took me a while to realize it's just his way of manipulating us. Anything he wants to do, we should go along with, because we're all so amazing that it shouldn't take the rest of us any effort whatsoever.

Why is Pink Floyd more popular and appealing than Rush?

Geddy's singing on Power Windows is especially good, in my opinion. Emotion Detector and Middletown Dreams are really great performances and great songs. He had shed his Janis Joplin/Robert Plant influences and just used his natural voice.
