Why is Pink Floyd more popular and appealing than Rush?

Agree, Pink Floyd is much easier to just casually listen too while Rush takes a lot more concentration.
Take out the Wall and I might agree (WYWH is the wild card for me, because I may be able to live without that).
I really have no opinion on the two since I'm not a fan of either but I'm kind of curious, why is all of these threads always comparing Rush? Am I to expect Rush vs The Dubliners next week or something? I'm just having a craic, don't take me seriously 
Lord knows, I've tried to listen to Rush's music, but it just doesn't do it for me. For the reasons I've already given.
I've watched their documentaries - the career one and the last tour one. All three seem like incredibly nice grounded people. I'd like to like them just for that. But they're not for me.

but I do think you're onto something here. I can only guess of course, but it would feel "right" to so many of us to see fame and fortune awarded proportionally to one's good dudeliness and musical ability. As enduringly popular as Rush has been and remains, it seems "wrong" to see jerks and hacks—or even people who just aren't as "good" as Rush, in many senses of the word—achieve even greater fame and fortune than them. Being nice guys and exceptional players clearly aren't necessary ingredients to huge sales and fame; if anything, I think Rush achieved their still-considerable fame and fortune in spite of their nice-guy and shred-y tendencies. It's really remarkable that they have as broad and enduring appeal as they do.

Because they have recorded some of the greatest rock songs ever.

I see your points! I should correct myself and say, I like songs from both bands, Rush I know is meme/stereotyped as being nerdy music with hardcore fans, which I have nothing against, I'm a die-hard metal,jazz and classical fan who will nerd out all day. I watched this film I think it was called fanboys this year with my friend and they use a characters van and he only has Rush cassette tapes and screams "RUSH IS VARIETY!" I'm not sure why but it reminds me all of these threads. But I understand people being strong about their favorite bands which I ain't again got nothing against, I love early Rush, YYZ, and even signals even though Chemistry gives me awful memories of chem class last year haha! But yeah it's true that it's impressive that they have achieve ground, someone I showed a playlist I made of all genres and they said that me having one Rush song was awesome, let me also say this person who I was classmates with wasn't a huge Rush fan so yeah it's is awesome they have made numbers, I'm also more of a Yes guy myself and some older Genesis! Sorry for my mixed up ramble but I appreciate your reply and liked it!
I dated a woman who was a big Rush fan and took her to Toronto at the Molson Amphitheatre on Canada Day one year. She was thrilled and so was I.
Why is Celine Dion more popular than Pink Floyd?
Tho PF is more popular, RUSH never jumped on the disco bandwagon.

I, too, managed to marry a female person with a fondness for Rush, though I think it has more to do with her abiding love for her sweet giant nerd Rush fan big brother (who has a birthday today!) than anything. I don't think a few of us knowing of female Rush fans undoes the consistent narrative of those who've gone to Rush shows and seen very few womanly people in attendance, though. The "why" of that is also a fair question, I suspect with a great deal more to unpack, which I really don't want to get into myself. If the apparent lack of females in attendance in shows is what it seems, though, it might account for a significant part of the gap in relative popularity between Rush and Pink Floyd.
My dad always described Rush as "3 extremely talented musicians who wrote terrible music". While I'm more tolerant of them than he is, I totally get where he's coming from. To my ears, Pink Floyd is like a warm blanket and Rush is like sandpaper. I dig what Rush did, but only in short bursts.
So, what if Rush had been a four piece, with, say, Chris Cornell on vocals?…

Since I'm typing anyway, I'll say that while I don't care for The Wall, I recommend listening to The Final Cut right after. I've always thought TFC represented the third album of the triple set The Wall should have been.
Of course I love Dark Side Of The Moon. But Animals is far and away my favorite Floyd album. I think I know every note of every instrument on every track.

It was intended to be the soundtrack for The Wall film when he started writing it, but Waters decided to write about something else partway through.
No, they just committed a more unpardonable crime(as far as many fans were concerned)…
