Why is Pink Floyd more popular and appealing than Rush?

Have you actually LISTENED to these two bands? ;)

Why is Mozart more popular than Schoenberg?

I mean, they're all great but I don't think it takes a genius to figure out why at least SOME of Pink Floyd's music has FAR more mainstream/commercial appeal than Rush, LOL.

The premise is sound, at least globally; please see below.

By the reasonable objective measure used here, Pink Floyd is six times more popular than Rush (globally). The "why" isn't something we will ever really be able to pin down, but it's fair to speculate. This also shows how to speculate about it without being a jerk.

Actual data! Informed, civil speculation! Thank you.

The problem is clear. You conflate music appreciation with data, and quality with commercial sales. Your premise is still unsound and your methods flawed.
You seek to quantify and measure artistic statements by the reactions of the respective audience. You also mistake dissent for incivility. You might evaluate your use of the word "popular". Both Rush and Floyd are popular. But have you looked at the the breadth and depth of their popularity? As Rush would say in their liner notes "Dept of Not Getting It".

That's ok. A lot of people don't get lots of things. My parents would wonder why you even bothered to ask the question, as Bill Evans was far superior to both Rush and Floyd so why even talk about them? Whatever.
