Why is Pink Floyd more popular and appealing than Rush?

In general Pink Floyd has a much wider appeal to rock fans than Rush. It seems their music is also more appealing to women.
What do you think, why?
I love both bands, but based on things I’ve heard people say over the years, Geddy’s voice REALLY turns some people off.

And while Floyd can at times have strident vocals, I’ve never heard someone say they “can’t stand the sound of Pink Floyd’s vocals”. But I’ve heard that many times about Rush. That’s usually been the given reason why someone said they didn’t like them, in my experience. Again, I personally love both.

Bon Scott and Brian Johnson, or the legions of lazy gutturals in otherwise good to great metal bands. The rest of the music just won’t matter if the vocals flat-out irritate the listener..

Brian Johnson may not be your cup of tea either but he's not in the same category as Geddy/Axl/Plant. I can't stand anyone doing that nasal rock n roll version of the hillbilly whine. (Can't stand in in country either. Gimme Waylon over Hank any day) Johnson is gravelly voices sure, but he's not whiney

Personal taste, which is COMPLETELY non logical: I love rock music. I love (and have studied extensively) so-called classical music. Generally speaking, I don't care for them to mix.

That, and again, personal taste, I really don't care for high tenor rock singing voices. Fingernails/chalkboard...

This is kind of like wondering why McDonalds is more popular than Burger King.

They’re both for squares.

The answer to the question is that Rush almost totally sucks, having just a few decent moments on only their first album, while Pink Floyd’s first half of their classic discography is actually halfway decent (the earlier, the better).

What’s more appealing, as a flavor of turd? Near total suckage, or 25 percent decency? I don’t know about you, but I’d venture to guess that most people of sound judgment and taste would choose the 25 percent decent tasting turd, if forced to eat one or the other.

I’ll take a Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese combo, Super Sized.
