Pink Floyd have a simple yet advanced sound that is familiar yet challenging. Their themes of darkness isolation and cynical take are more universal than the mostly high minded lyrics of rush.

Debra cadabraAtmosphere. I don't think Rush was that concerned with atmosphere. (except for bravura)
Astrologically PF is Pisces-Virgo, mutable water and earth, and Rush is Aquarius-Leo, fixed air and fire.
That’s when they were more interesting, breaking down barriers, and challenging people’s imaginations instead of lulling them into complacency. The later PF is much more accessible, that is easy digested and enjoyed the ears to the average person. Early PF was not that way.
I love both bands, but based on things I’ve heard people say over the years, Geddy’s voice REALLY turns some people off.In general Pink Floyd has a much wider appeal to rock fans than Rush. It seems their music is also more appealing to women.
What do you think, why?
So many hits!I love both but Pink Floyd has better songs.
Stoners and artists (no small part of Pink Floyd’s fan base) may not have been terribly high on the social ladder in high schools in the ‘70s and ‘80s
*points to Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict*... I can sing along to many Pink Floyd songs, ...
Bon Scott and Brian Johnson, or the legions of lazy gutturals in otherwise good to great metal bands. The rest of the music just won’t matter if the vocals flat-out irritate the listener..

All real women hate Rush
