Interesting take on a PJ but at $2,400 (even more for the UK customer) I doubt I'll be getting one soon... Does sound nice though

I very briefly had a 79 4001 with a big chunky neck, I really liked it as I have big hands. Reminded me of a 70s precision neck I once played. The new necks are more of a slimmer U shaped neck. Really nice, no complaints but markedly different from the 70s 4001

Finally got the new 2024 Rick today. Wow, what an improvement, single truss rod, much better bridge and overall just a better bass

Well I've decided that the 4001 just isn't for me with that crap bridge and it's been moved on. I've since ordered a 2024 Fireglo 4003 with what looks to be a sensible bridge design and single truss rod.

Not sure if this was ever identified but it's a Shaftesbury Rick copy. Originally imported into the UK from Japan for the Rose Morris Company, it got it's name from Shaftesbury Avenue in London where the company/shop was based. These basses would have been built in the Matsumoko Gakki factory...

Here in the UK, Ricks are a bit more than £2k - that's just about the going rate for a used example. Cheapest examples start around £2600 and up to 3k in some places. Ironically, the cheapest used 4003 at Andertons has a sensible bridge installed: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
