Never heard of them. But after that video, if I was in the market for a new P bass in the 2 grand range, and my only choices were McGrath or Fender, I think I would have to take a chance on a McGrath. And I love my Fenders. But color and pup options win out. And the attention to detail is most likely greater as well over a mass produced bass that you have no say in the building of.

Thread 'NAMM standout - McGrath basses'

Gathering my thoughts on NAMM as I pack up for the airport. I played 200? 300? basses and guitars. Who knows. My hips and back say it had to be at least that many.

The standout new builder for me was McGrath. I spent more time at their booth than any other by the end of the show, going back four times over 3 days and playing every bass they brought. I talked to the owner and solo builder Cormac for easily two hours combined and also talked to his Dad who was there to support him and taking notes from everyone playing the basses and from industry people on how to grow their new brand. I can't get this config outa my mind in "Whiskey", and I'm a vodka man! Just a master V-T and three on/off switches would suit me fine. Lollar is the icing on the cake! In fact, when I first started looking at McGrath I thought "Heck yeah! Nice looking basses. I can always stick some Lollars in it." Then I got to the pickup selection and... SCHWING!

Edit to add: I'm 61 so I've been pre-approved for tort.

McGrath is awesome! I have the prototype black and gold Thunderhorse just like the Bass Channel video. It sounds good in their video but much better through my setup live.
I didn’t take to the original ebony board so I inquired with Cormac McGrath and sent it in for an upgrade. It now sports a roasted flame maple neck and fretboard with a matching black and gold headstock. This thing is unreal. I catch my self when playing live just staring at that neck.

I swear-- you guys are the worst bunch of enablers of financial destruction I have ever come across! Lol

I reached out to McGrath with a really offbeat pickup configuration, fully expecting it to get shot down...

...and they responded, saying they can totally do it (albeit with a longer timeline, due to a wait from the pickup maker).

So... I might possibly be getting the ball rolling on a Thunderhorse IV.

Oh this would be sweet, Im making a Triple P for myself right now (for sale though) in whiskey, Its going to just have 1 volume, 1 tone and jag style switches for the pickups, heres an in progress shot, all lollar too! Mahogony Body. Reach out to me for custom options if they arent on the builder yet. I'll be adding those Jad switches very soon. I've been thinking about calling this bass the Trip-P, or the Snake or the Superbass because its kind of a Superman S.

Hah! Yeah, I'm kind of cursed with an over-active imagination. An occassional thread would pop up on this forum with a question like "What would be your ideal/signature bass?"
I have posted a response in at least a half-dozen of those threads by now-- and I don't believe I have ever given the same answer twice!
