Thanks, Rocket Queen. Yes, I saw that when I was trying to find a Vintera II. The interesting thing for me, was my ;blind' choice. I had written 4 & 6, with a question mark on 1. That's why I'm looking at the JMJ as my second choice.... although, I still have a slight preference for the Vintera.

Excellent... that does tie in with most of the reviews I've read. I've had Fenders/Squires in the past, and always liked the brand (particularly the j bass), but I've never played a Mustang. Thanks.

I've tried three UK outlets, and it seems that the Vintera II is being discontinued over here? Looking at other options, I've seen some great reviews of the Fender JMJ Mustang (Road Worn). I read that someone recommended it earlier in this topic... anyone else had any experience?

Another option for me (in order to get that vintage, smooth, rich, tone) is the Gibson SG Standard in Ebony. I played one of these way back in the day, and I loved Andy Fraser's sound.

Hi. Thanks for this. What model is that? Any link to your review? Actually, when I was looking for another shortie to add a while back, my choice of U5 was influenced by your review. I've only had a couple of shorties in nearly 50 years, but that U5 has the best tone and playability (fitted with...

Actually, I'll have to continue looking for another shortie. After telling me that they have one in stock, then messing me about for several days, and giving estimated delivery dates, 'Gear4Music' just emailed me to say that the Vintera II 70s Mustang has now been classified as an 'end of line'...

I'll let you know when I have it (tomorrow, hopefully). TBH, the weight is pretty irrelevant in my circumstances (and I have a very decent strap, which helps).

Funnily enough, I nearly bought a Hofner violin (Beatles) jobbie. Mainly, as I've never played one before, and I wanted something a bit different. Looking forward to getting the Vintera though.

I finally decided on this: Vintera II 70s Fender Mustang bass. I can't really explain the reason for the choice, other than I like the look and saound, and enjoy a bit of retro. Seems to have the warm. deep tone available that I want.

Useful, thank you. No problem with the bias... would be quite rare if someone had practical experience of both.

Thanks. Which price range are the ones that you have? I'm looking at those currently at around £750 in the UK at the moment.

Does anyone have thoughts on these: Fender Player II Mustang Bass RW AQB Or compared to the Musicman: Buy the Music Man StingRay Short Scale RAYSS4 Toluca Lake Blue

Yes, I was looking at the Ibbies, too. I've never played one of their el basses, but I did have an Ibby acoustic bass until quite recently. Heck of a good sound on that, for the price point.

Along the lines I was thinking. The Musicman Stingrays look interesting too (never played a MM).

Retired now, so purely playing/writing for my pleasure. I like shorties, and would like another. Just looking for the best under a grand.
