Best Shortie

Fender Player 2 Mustang PJ: Short scale with REAL pickups instead of Chiclets, plus with the PJ routs already there, you could put in anything you want. Does not SOUND like some wimpy short scale with El Crappola pickups.

But then again . . . .

Alembic 30" Stanley Clarke. Mo Money than the Fender . . . .

Somehow, these brilliant little axes never come up: The reissue Hagstrom Swede basses (30").

Funnily enough, I nearly bought a Hofner violin (Beatles) jobbie. Mainly, as I've never played one before, and I wanted something a bit different. Looking forward to getting the Vintera though.
The only gripe I’d have about it after having played it in a store is the gloss neck, but I’m not shy about sanding a gloss neck. Beyond that small gripe, the Vintera II sounds great and is very comfortable to play thanks to the 70s contours. Best of all, either color option looks awesome.

One of my first bands, our bass player had a Swede. It sounded killer! Never got to play it (he wouldn’t let anyone touch it 😂).

I love the look of that Vintera, my local guitar center had one, so I tried it out and it was a boat anchor! Must have been over 9 lbs. OP is yours heavy? I was wondering if they are all like that to be 70’s period correct.

I just got a Vintage Fender Bullet B30 81-82’. They were made at the Fullerton plant for just 2 years and then discontinued. I am super pleased with the build quality. The neck is amazing, the body is lightweight, no neck dive. It’s got a down sized body, mustang pickups and a tele neck. It’s a rare bass and still affordable for vintage. The long scale bullets are nice too and easier to come by.

I'll let you know when I have it (tomorrow, hopefully). TBH, the weight is pretty irrelevant in my circumstances (and I have a very decent strap, which helps).

Actually, I'll have to continue looking for another shortie. After telling me that they have one in stock, then messing me about for several days, and giving estimated delivery dates, 'Gear4Music' just emailed me to say that the Vintera II 70s Mustang has now been classified as an 'end of line' item, and they can no longer supply me with one. Terrible service!!!!

This one! ;P Seriously it's probably one of the most well thought out Fender Mustangs ever built. Lightweight tuners, shielding from the factory, unique J pickup placement that yields a very full and gorgeous tone., one piece maple neck with rosewood board, great neck profile. Why can't we get this in the US :(

lovely bass! wish it had a contour like the 70s mustangs plus some cream pups for that super 70s look!

Yeah, if Fender really is stopping the 70s Vintera II, then that means there will no longer be any Mustangs being made with contours. That's a shame.

I wonder if they're ditching the Vintera II because they already have the JMJ and new American Classic Pro around the same price point.

Hi. Thanks for this. What model is that? Any link to your review? Actually, when I was looking for another shortie to add a while back, my choice of U5 was influenced by your review. I've only had a couple of shorties in nearly 50 years, but that U5 has the best tone and playability (fitted with flats) than many basses I've played.

I've tried three UK outlets, and it seems that the Vintera II is being discontinued over here? Looking at other options, I've seen some great reviews of the Fender JMJ Mustang (Road Worn). I read that someone recommended it earlier in this topic... anyone else had any experience? 15823195_800.jpg

In my opinion, it's the best Mustang Fender/Squier currently makes. The road worn nitro neck is awesome. The pickup sounds fantastic.

And even if you're one of these people opposed to relicing, no one can really see the relic work while you're playing it.

If you pick the black one, it's going to come with a black pickguard as well, so you get the option of keeping it as you see it in the photo or going all black.

Excellent... that does tie in with most of the reviews I've read. I've had Fenders/Squires in the past, and always liked the brand (particularly the j bass), but I've never played a Mustang. Thanks.
