Although it looks like crap, you may not want to cut the string so it can be used on a different ax. For example if you own a Fender vs Ibanez. Putting it through the post will give you a hard bend before it wraps around the post.

I've been playing for 30+ years (damn, its scary to see that in writing!), and have suffered some hearing loss at the higher frequencies. I attribute it mainly to playing music at very high volumes. Up until the last three years, I only worn hearing protection (ear condoms) intermittently...

I have a Dean Edge, which is a neck through body, thin profile on the neck, active electronics and an on-board 3-band eq. After a good set-up and ghs boomers, I love playing that guitar. It didn't cost a lot, but I play it more than my Fender pb.:bassist:

How about guitarists who don't come prepared to rehearsal, and learn the song in rehearsal (wasting everyone else's time), then glare at you, the bass player, when you hit a single wrong note. Pisses me off all the f'n time.

and ask for some references. If he is for real, he won't mind giving them. When you talk to the references, get a feel for what they originally wanted, and ask if that is what they got, or did they get a build that was heavily influenced by the builder.
