So I just got an email back from Dean, and they actually will sell me a replacement preamp, prewired with pots, for $20 shipped! I can't ask for an easier repair than that!

Personally, I see the divorce as being irrelevant to this conversation. If there's no sentimental attachment, then do with the basses as you would if you had bought them for yourself. So basically, sell them to me for really cheap! ;-)

So I think the plan right now is to bypass the treble/bass pots and just wire it directly so I can get back to playing. I'm not to the point right now where I even really use them, so it won't be a big loss. Then I'll just plan to upgrade all of the guts in one shot further down the road.
