    Too soon ?

I say just stick to what you have for now and gain experience learning all you can and developing your skill on what you have. At the same time learn as much as you can about the instrument and all it has to offer in all areas of music, even genres that may be out of your comfort zone. Surf TB...

    Biggest influence on you?

The person that got me to pick up the bass was Louis Johnson. After years of playing and studying bassists of all genres, periodically I feel like I have outgrown Louis, but then I bump up some of the songs hes recorded on and all is right in the world again.

    Specific area with Fret buzz

Well I measured it and its about .3mm at the 8th fret, which converts to about .012". However I recently adjusted the truss rod so it hasn't had much time to set. I've raised it pretty high just to see how high it would go before it stopped buzzing, and unfortunately it was unplayably high...

    Specific area with Fret buzz

Hey everyone, I just swapped to a new set of strings which is of lower gauge than previous and naturally a little buzz came around so i put some relief in the neck. All is well except around the 15-19th frets, on the A string only, major buzz occurs. I am pretty noob when it comes to setting...

If bands looking for members were honest

"Serious band seeks a couple of more serious committed musicians. our influences include heavy metal/prog metal/hardcore punk/jazz/r&b, and by hardcore punk we mean fall out boy, and by jazz and r&b we mean blues rock, and by blues rock we mean badly done led zeppelin covers."

    Double thumb mystery

It took me a real long time to get it down. I figured out my mistake was trying to apply the technique i haven't got down to complex licks. How i finally nailed it was taking it simple, just adding a triplet or something every few measures to a groove. Slowly but surely applied it to more and...

    Is rap music?

People seem to think since they don't like a genre, it means it doesn't qualify as a valid form of art or music. There has been no real argument other than "it sucks," or "its rubbish, the grammar is terrible, they demean women," "rap is C-rap!" etc. all of which have nothing to do with it...

    Is rap music?

Back to The OPs question. Yes it is music, as much as free jazz or stravinsky or john cage. maybe even more so. EDIT: ok I'm going to pick up the good old bass and play some i keep forgetting by michael mcdonald. because this thread inspired me to play some great basslines that hip hop has...

    Is rap music?

flaw in my argument? hmm seem to have left out the whole sentence which i wrote they arent as talented "musically," but it does involve talent that mixes musical talent and technical talent. You are spinning. you would make a good politician. hard to tell good DJing and bad DJing, you...

    Is rap music?

alright just a misinterpretation on my part. Sorry if i get a little defensive when it comes to hip hop. I am not trying to convert anyone, just trying to show people that it is a legitimate form of music AND art, whether anyone likes it or not.

    Is rap music?

me do a little reading huh? get rich or die trying mentality? you see it on the news and hear it on the radio and you think that is hip hop? i despise the get rich or die trying attitude as well, hip-hop is not without its downfalls and crappy distasteful artists. as far as talent goes, yes its...

    Is rap music?

what you may have heard is not representative of the whole genre. Someone can listen to AC/DC or Kiss and label rock music as nothing but a bunch of jocks using metaphors for their penises and getting laid. But we all know that isn't true. P.s. AC/DC and kiss rule

    Is rap music?

as if I didn't mention there was any bad side of it? and as if there isn't any violence, drug usage and selling, vandalizing, demeaning women, crime, and plagiarism in rock, punk, blues, jazz or funk music? Jazz was notorious for being "brothel," music and having half its musicians being on...
