Guitar Center ends lay away policy

Confused by all the people saying paying for something on a credit card is fiscally responsible but putting it on layaway isn't. A credit card is only fiscally responsible if you're paying it off on time. Same with layaway. Also, the credit card is giving you the item right away while with...

Guitar Center ends lay away policy

But there was no risk with the layaway. You could back out of it. Also, how is being comfortable you can pay the debt at the end of the month any different whether it's on a credit card or layaway? Either way, you have something to pay off at the end of the month.

Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread Part 10

It's actually incredibly popular. It's pretty much the default processing technique for bass at this point. I'm not going to spend an hour finding you dozens of videos with world class engineers (Warren Huart, Joey Sturgis, Eric Valentine, etc.) who demonstrate how they do it, but you can look...

Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread Part 10

Still loving the Walkabout I bought last year. I've paired it with an Ampeg SVT212 cab -- which I find to be a pretty bright, tight cab. Since the Walkabout can produce a massive amount of low end, they complement each other perfectly. I've got the settings dialed in where it sounds great with...

    Hofner-(not just Beatle Basses)-Group Part 2

To be clear, are you all talking about this gap here in the circled area? The interesting thing is that the gap on the high G string seems to be just as large but I'm not noticing any dead string issue there. I wish that Backbeat channel with the YT video about this still existed. A visual...

    Hofner-(not just Beatle Basses)-Group Part 2

I'm wondering if the reason people have had success switching to LaBellas when they encountered the dead string problem was because the string is a slightly different thickness or tension and therefore sits differently on the bridge? Just a theory. Annoyingly, I have a similar issue on my...

    Hofner-(not just Beatle Basses)-Group Part 2

Sounds like I should try a string change first, and if that doesn't work I'll try the bridge sanding.

    Hofner-(not just Beatle Basses)-Group Part 2

Yeah, I'm just assuming I'd still have to buy the whole pack. I know there are places that sell single strings online, but I'm guessing that wouldn't be an option for something as niche as the LaBella Beatle Bass strings. Kind of also considering trying tapewounds. Never used them before.

    Hofner-(not just Beatle Basses)-Group Part 2

Thanks! Worth a shot. Worst case, I wasted $50 after already spending a ton of money.

    Hofner-(not just Beatle Basses)-Group Part 2

It's a beautiful, fantastic instrument either way. My only complaint right now is that the low E string is deader than the other strings. They're flats, so in theory there shouldn't be any difference. I can't find anything wrong with the setup either. Wondering if I should just try changing the...

    Hofner-(not just Beatle Basses)-Group Part 2

So I just got this 500/1 from Chicago Music Exchange. According to their website, the pots date it between 1968 and 1971. That jibes with all the appointments too (according to the chart I found here: models). One thing that confuses me though. It says Hofner on the upper left side of the...

NBD: Gretsch G5440 LSB Hollowbody (Long Scale)

They seem to range from $750 to $900 right now, depending on the model. Long story, but I ended up getting a (much more expensive) vintage Hofner. So I will not be buying a semi-hollow anytime soon. The Gretsch is definitely on my short list along with a few others (Guild Starfire, Epiphone...

NBD: Gretsch G5440 LSB Hollowbody (Long Scale)

Has anyone played both the short scale and the long scale? How much does the scale length affect the tone? I've always kind of felt that if I bought a hollowbody, I would make sure it was also short scale. My reasoning is that short scale basses tend to have a big round tone I love. I really...

Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread Part 10

Update on this: I went a little while mostly using my Ampeg tube amp. Decided to use the Walkabout today. Love it even more than I ever have. Do you ever find a particular combination of bass, pedals, amp, and amp settings that just enhances each individual element? That happened to me today. I...

NBD: Mike Lull IMA4 - When Thunderbird meets Jazz

They really do sound and look incredible. For my tastes, they're kind of the perfect bass. I've been lusting after them for a while. However, they cost as much as my entire bass collection. Plus, they're impossible to find right now anyway. Hope you're still enjoying yours.
