    Restoring my '51 p-bass. If the wires from the pickup are crossed, what effect would that have. Would it change the polarity or make it not work at all.

    Where the cloth insulated wires run through the hole connecting the pickup to the controls. Do I need to wrap the wires with copper? Also the pick guard doesn't cover any cavities, does it still need copper on the back side

    Thanks for the great post. I have maybe a dumb question, but if all the metal parts are grounded then what is purpose of the shielding. My bass is an original 1951 p-bass with only a hole that carries the wiring from the pickup to the pots

    Don't remember if I reversed the wires. I'll switch them and see if that's it. There is no ground wire from the bridge.

    Just removed a neck humbucker from my p-bass, also removed toggle switch. Put the bass back to the original single pickup. I now am getting a lot of hum through the amp. Would reversing the wires on the pickup help, or is the problem maybe with the pots.

    Hey, finally found the right screws 12-24 x 3/8" slotted round head machine screw, at Bolt Depot online Thanks for your help. Wanted to get my old bass back to the original, and keep it as original as possible. It's a jewel, 1951 Fender P-bass, would you believe ser. #349 patent pending
