Fender(?) Jazz(?) Bass. What the hell do I have here?

Great news all around. I wasn’t sure what to make of the neck but sounds like it might be a Fender. I just connected with a local luthier so I’ll reach out to him and see what he thinks.

Appreciate the feedback. What year do you think it might be?

Fender(?) Jazz(?) Bass. What the hell do I have here?

Picked this up years ago for a lot less than what a Fender Jazz Bass would typically sell for. The pots are dated to 1976, neck pickup is a custom shop, bridge I’m uncertain. The pickguard has a partial serial on the backside. Body was likely stripped and refinished, and you can see several...

For Sale 2002 Modulus Flea 5 Bass w/ OHSC (Signed by Flea) - $2,200 OBO

Up for sale or trade is a Modulus Flea 5 bass guitar. The bass is loaded with a Bartolini pickup and preamp. The neck is straight with minor play wear. The treble-side tuning key was replaced with a very similar Gotoh key. There is a screw hole on the lower horn where an extra strap button used...

    NBD - '72 Rickenbacker 4001 Bass

Picked this up locally yesterday. The wiring was shot and the neck pup is not showing any activity, but it's all original otherwise. I had a buddy of mine redo the wiring with the assistance of RIC schematics. The aging of the jetglo finish (slight forest green appearance) coupled with the...

    Rickenbacker 4001 neck pickup issue

Picked up an early 70's Rickenbacker 4001. The bass needs to be rewired, but it also seems like the neck pickup is toast. Visually the pickup looks fine, but there is no resistance when measured with a multimeter. The poles are held in place by some type of epoxy but are easily removable. What...

Pre Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray, sort of...

Oh boy, not sure how I missed that. Here's a better pic of the back of the headstock. Definitely a veneer on the back as well. Man, I'd love to see this thing without the veneers. Is it possible they used the old mounting holes for 4 of the 5 tuners? I would imagine the integrity of the...

I don't see any evidence of old screw holes on the back of the headstock. The placement of four of the tuners looks pretty close to the original tuners. Might have a local tech check it out and see what he thinks.

I don't believe there is. I think they may have tuners with a similar footprint. I'll take a closer look though.

Thanks hand, that seems to be the general consensus. I've been looking up pricing on stingray bridges, flirting with the idea of at least bringing something original back on board. Mostly people have been telling me to leave it as is, though.
