Fender(?) Jazz(?) Bass. What the hell do I have here?

Picked this up years ago for a lot less than what a Fender Jazz Bass would typically sell for. The pots are dated to 1976, neck pickup is a custom shop, bridge I’m uncertain. The pickguard has a partial serial on the backside. Body was likely stripped and refinished, and you can see several plugged screw holes.

The neck, no clue what’s going on there. The Fender decal was definitely added/altered from the original. The truss access is flat, when fender used the bullet type. Maybe it was cut down or altered? No inlay in the first fret either. Is this ever a thing? Any and all help is appreciated.

It looks like a post 1976 jazz bass , with a replacement fretboard, decal, and truss rod.

Definitely looks like a '76 with what was once the bullet truss rod. I'd sort out the headstock decal and as long as the truss rod works rock the heck out of it

Great news all around. I wasn’t sure what to make of the neck but sounds like it might be a Fender. I just connected with a local luthier so I’ll reach out to him and see what he thinks.
