Fully agree about cutting through the mix. An NG does it easily with any pickup combinations. If you do not like a DG preamp you can always switch off it and play in passive. I usually play on my NG in passive - great tone especially with a neck pickup soloed.

Need some feedback on a decision

If you don’t mind multi-scale, i would also consider a Dingwall SP-1, SJ or Combustion. They are really amazing basses.

I have an NG3 but 5 strings. It is an amazing bass, supper versatile, quality is top notch, pickup configurations are really practical. Due to an alder body it is not the heaviest one across Dindwall models.

Last Friday was a first gig with my NG3. What a bass! I played bridge+neck combination - stunning foundation!

Today at rehearsal I tried playing my NG3 on the neck pickup, and damn, it gets really close to that classic P-Bass tone, at least in passive mode. I’m loving this bass more and more!

Dingwall has priced themselves out of reach for the average Bassist or are the really worth it ?!

I like my 5 string NG3. I have bought it in Toronto for 2,700 USD and for me it is worth every penny. Quality of the bass is fantastic, super stable and fast neck, no any dead spots. All pickup combinations are practical, the bass cuts through easily any mix.

Sire V5 vs Squier CV 70s Active Jazz?

I love my Sire V5-5. The neck is fast and stable, B-string is tight, weight is 4.1kg. I put gotoh tuners and SJB-3 pickups on it.

Yesterday I tried my new 5 string NG3 first time on a rehearsal with my band. Wow, what a bass. Surprisingly, a third pickup position (bridge+neck) cut through easily a mix with two overdrived guitars. My Fender Jazz Bass cannot do so when two pickups fully on. Second and forth positions are...

My first brand new NG3. What a bass! It sounds and plays amazing. The only complain is a weight - 9.5lbs.

Dingwall -- (ignorant) What's The Big Deal?

I’ve spent some time playing Chinese made Dingwall NG3 and comparing it to all of my other basses. What an incredible instrument. It’s simply on another level. Pros: Piano-like tone Outstanding B string Even string tension across all five strings, with slightly higher overall tension than on...

I also thought about it but it seems quite thick for such a reason. I may be mistaken though.
