Slash chords – optional or not?

G/B is a G chord with a B bass note, not an indication of which inversion is required.

Most 60s sounding Hollow/Semi Hollow Body Bass - Need definitive answer!

I played an Epiphone Rivoli myself for a couple of years in the early sixties, and recorded with it. The sound you refer to was pretty much the result of the recording process, and the fact that the recording engineers in the UK in those days were mainly of the older generation still looking...

Most 60s sounding Hollow/Semi Hollow Body Bass - Need definitive answer!

I played an Epiphone Rivoli for a couple of years in the early sixties. I would suggest the sound you are referring to was the product of the way these bassesi were recorded

    70s Fender, Sadowsky, or Lakland?

You won't find much love for 70's Pbasses on here. In the real world there are some good ones out there, try it and use your own ears and eyes. The fact that it is in good condition could just mean it's been stuck under a bed for years by someone who thought he wanted to play bass but never got...

    Bill Wyman Appreciation Thread

I believe Keith Richards played bass on the original recording of sympathy With the Devil. Quite a few of the iconic Stones basslines were recorded by other members of the band, including at a later stage Ronnie Wood, who in my opinion is a great bass player. (For example on the Faces 'Maggie...

    Righty Playing Lefty

Most of you seem to agree that a right-handed beginner should learn on a right-handed bass, but a left-handed beginner should learn on a right-handed bass. Don't really see the logic in that....?

    ibanez artcore series bass

I sometimes gig an AGB 200. It is beautifully made and looks gorgeous. With flats it gets that old school thump, similar too but much better than a Hofner in my experience. Great for blues, roots music, rockabilly etc., and not a million miles away from an upright bass. Strung with rounds it can...

    Righty Playing Lefty

To the OP, pretty simple to reverse strings, but you would have to change the nut round which might not please your friend. Better to a buy a cheapie R/H I would think. As a lefty who was made to write with my right hand, and remembering the aggravation it caused me as child, when I came to...

    New audition experience...opinions

I'm not sure I would want to join a band where it was considered acceptable for the bass player to noodle around the twelfth fret when he was lost. Pretty low standards by the sound of it.

    Hipshot Bass Extender

Yes they are great, very accurate and reliable. There is a good set-up video on YouTube. There is one down side, or am I the only person who sometimes forgets to crank back up to E when necessary after a drop D song? Takes a couple of bars of what the !!!!? Before I realise my mistake...

Won a guitar on eBay - seller doesn't want to sell - the hilarity ensues

Well the seller seems like a reasonable, if somewhat misguided guy. I must say I like your reply very much, I think it does you great credit. Well done.

Someone recommend me a new Fender

Try a MIA Fender P bass and a MIA Fender Jazz bass. Buy whichever one sounds best to you. Both will nail the genres you mention. If you want to spend a lot of money, go for a Fender custom shop model.
