Preach! My American special was pretty neck heavy originally, the body is just so dang light. Threw some Hipshot ultralites & a fender hi mass on it, and now it balances like a dream.

Lesson learned. Buy in-person, or through reputable online retailers, only. With AI and whatever else, these types of scams will only get worse.

IME you’ll be the only one who notices the badge on the headstock. My main bass has been a Squier for ages and I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve been asked if it’s a vintage fender DESPITE the headstock (right in front of their face) saying Squier on it.

I like the quirky designs of the old Teisco and such basses, before the lawsuit style ones took over. They’re not terribly well built, and way over priced now, though, so I don’t own any. Still, I get a kick any time I see one.

If youve found a stable inexpensive bass, a good luthier could make it play (no promises on sound) like an expensive bass. What’s the real difference between a 2k & 10k bass though? Beyond $8,000, I don’t know.

I figured out music school was not for me real quick. Intro sight singing & theory classes offered exclusively at 8AM had me tapping out almost immediately.
