    Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro 'phones - 80 or 250 ohm?

Well the Apogee Duet (audio interface) is essentially a headphone amp (along with many other functions.) Don't really know what kind of output it's giving. When I'm recording with the band, we are all plugged into what looks to be a headphone amp, but may just be a splitter that runs headphone...

    Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro 'phones - 80 or 250 ohm?

Cool. Thanks for the advice. I've been reading all about damping factor and how certain headphones can have frequency bumps if the impedance isn't steady all they way through the frequency range, but that may be a bit out of my league and since I'm planning on using these phones from several...

    Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro 'phones - 80 or 250 ohm?

Thanks for the feedback. I don't think I plan on mixing really at all in this space. There are monitors hooked up to the board anyway, and I think that it can be misleading to mix only in headphones, so that's not really in my plan for these 'phones. I'm only the bass player and back up...

    Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro 'phones - 80 or 250 ohm?

So I just spent 4 evenings this past week with my band seriously recording/live tracking. My first time using a headphone mix off the mixer while tracking. It took a little getting used to as we were playing at such a volume...not really loud, but loud enough that the poorly isolated...

How did you afford equipment as a teenager?

Detailing cars in the dead of winter (inside a garage, but still cold as ****...) and in the thick of summer (outside) was how I made most of my money as a teenager. The summer before I went to college, I was determined to buy a particular Larrivee acoustic guitar (guitar player at that point)...

    Don't Leave Me This Way

One of my favorite Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes tracks! This one blows away the Thelma Houston cover, in my opinion. Nobody can sing like Teddy P. Definitely tasty playing on this song. I always find myself humming the bass line during the chorus instead of singing the words.

    Derrick hodge

I saw the him with the Robert Glasper Experiment a couple months back. It was one of the best shows I've ever attended. Incredible interplay and dynamics between all the guys up there. Hodge was equally amazing at locking in and keeping a groove and at beautiful, melodic soloing with tons of...

    R&B/Neo-Soul Bass Techniques?

Sounds more like Victor Wooten style solo bass than Neo Soul, IMO. I'll say this and leave it at that...LISTEN TO "VOODOO" !!! (D'angelo) Live it, breathe it, absorb it. THEN, take one of your favorites of which you have the bass part basically memorized and take it section by section...

What beer are you drinking (or rating) II: second bottle

I had a homebrew earlier this afternoon while hanging out in the sun. Named it Samuel L Jackson IPA. "It's my beer!" Just polished off one of these babies with my pizza for dinner. Nice and bitter with an interesting aftertaste of ever so slightly sweet oak.

    Lil' reggae help, gang.

You can't really expect to hear any bass from any genre properly on laptop speakers! Get you some headphones and start groovin. I sometimes even find it difficult to make out exact bass frequencies from recordings when I'm listening to floor speakers trying to learn a song. Of course, my room...

    R&B/Neo-Soul Bass Techniques?

Check out this guy's Youtube Channel. I came across it a little while back and he's totally got it down. He can do the Pino thing extremely well. He's got several Neo-Soul tracks that he's covered or interpreted bass lines to. It's not really explained, but you can at least hear and see the...

    Ultimate James Brown stuff?

In the Jungle Groove is crucial. The Star Time boxed set is cool as hell and definitely worth your time and money. Some of my favorites James Brown is stuff from the JBs. I really dig on Food for Thought, Damn Right I Am Somebody and the Funky Good Time Anthology (2 Discs). The Payback is...

James Brown - bass off key?

I don't know how popular it in the whole scheme of things, but I know this song well and love it. Don't have a transcription, though. I know that NaS probably isn't the only one who used this track as a sample. The track is "Get Down" from God's Son.

For all you gospel nuts (the proper way to play the bass)

Not gospel proper, though I could argue that Marvin is another kind of gospel, but check out this one of Sharay Reed playing his bass version of "I Want You". Damn tasty groovin on one of my favorite Marvin tracks... YouTube - Sharay Reed- "I Want You" by Marvin Gaye He's got that...

    Are Bass Albums Boring?

I didn't read the entire thread, but I agree that the bass needs to be balanced out by everything else musically, or else it just seems like someone is masturbating and everyone else is sort of sitting around watching... I would suggest listening to Esperanza Spalding. I haven't heard her...
