    Paul McCartney and his Basses

What interested me the most was Hofner's expert, Nick Wass saying that McCartney's original "Cavern bass" had a round back, and not a flat one. So all of their re-issues were actually wrong on that point.

Considering a new semi-hollow body bass

In my opinion that's an absurd price. Find an Epiphone Jack Casady and try it. A Lot of professional musicians use them, including Jack himself, of course.

Considering a new semi-hollow body bass

The Epiphone Jack Casady Signature bass is the most versatile bass I've played, and the one with the best overall tone. It's a 34 inch scale. It's very sensitive to your right hand plucking, and to the type of strings that you put on it - so you can get lots of tones. Add in the 3 position...

Thomastik Infeld strings seem awfully expensive

It's a matter of personal preference. It's not a right or wrong situation. Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flats are expensive, but they last a very long time. Each brand sounds and feels different.

    LaBella vs TI

I did it in the opposite direction. Once I slacked off about 1 inch of string, I ran my fingers down the length of the string string towards the bridge, and the ball end rotated to a neutral position. I then re-tightened the string and the problem was solved.

I Honestly Could Be Happy With These Two

I think you've got things covered with those two. They'll have to pry my Hofner bass from my cold dead fingers.

So I had a brain tumor...

Crikey !!! I'm so glad you made it. Reading this makes people my age take stock and to be grateful when we have only aches and pains. I'm wishing you well, and all the best.

Epiphone Jack Casady possibly discontinued? Say WHAT!?!

I think this might be what's coming.

    JACK CASADY BASS PLAYERS CLUB!

I took an educated guess, and found a picture from July 17th, 2026 of Jack playing what appears to be a new style Jack Casady bass. Looks great to me.

Best flatwound strings for Jack Casady bass

You might want to also consider LaBella Low Tension Flats as another candidate for your Jack Casady Signature bass.

Just rewatched the Woodstock movie. (Warning: "old man" content!)

What a joy it was to see that clip of the Jefferson Airplane again. They were unique and such a varied and talented band. Grace Slick and Jack Casady together -how can you top that? I saw them live, back in the day and they were fantastic. Too bad how other things messed them up over time, I...

    LaBella vs TI

Update on my LTF set. I found that the dull D string was twisted. I untwisted it and re-tuned the string to find that it was perfect. So, La Bella was not at fault, they made a fine set after all. By the way, I really like these strings.

My experience with notorious Gibson 3-point bridge

Regarding the three point bridges on the Epiphone Jack Casady basses, what would Jack do? It's been almost 30 years, and he still uses the original three point bridges. Good enough for Jack, good enough for me.
